As we all know, since the United States made it to the Round of 16, it's still called soccer for another 16 months.
Leagues Cup, Tigres (MEX) vs Vancouver (CAN); as the Tigres goalkeeper looks to distribute, an off-camera foul seems to happen near the center line. As the Tigres GK rushes forwards to quickly take the freekick from half, Referee Ivan Barton, beloved in Paraguay, issues a caution while stepping in front (or alongside) of the ball to delay the restart so he can sort out the booking. Tigres GK has a rush of adrenaline and shoves Barton aside to take the kick, and Barton correctly sends him off for violent conduct.
There is SOME apologetics we can do for the goalkeeper here, as a result of what I assume to be a miscommunication;
Tigres goes on to win two men down, in what made for a double comeback in this matchup.

Barton, after whistling for foul, whistles again once the GK has finished rushing forward and setting up the quick spot kick, with a single blast instead of a double blast. I immediately knew exactly what the GK was thinking and that the GK thought that this was the whistle to restart play. A miscommunication. Of course it doesn't excuse the shove, but it provides some explanation as to why the GK thought a light shove for space was acceptable within this context, in the same vein that a player would run through or "move" a referee out of the way during open play.
