Given an U8s game last weekend

Picture the scenario.

A tame shot from the attacking side reaches the goalkeeper, he throws the ball up in the air to a defender coming towards him (as if the ball was dead and he was taking a goal kick) defender catches the ball.

Now its obviously a penalty kick, both sides shouting at me "thats a bit harsh ref"

Just take the goal kick (the ball never went dead)

These kids games at this age seem to cause more grief than any other age group.

U8s is more akin to babysitting than it is refereeing

"hey guys I am giving a penalty so that you know what the right decision is and keep the integrity of the game (last thing is for the parents). It is up to you now to do the fair thing and kick the penalty out. It is your choice"
