I must say, it was very rare people would come back after I've attempted to clear them out. Swift stern look followed by standing up as straight as possible often helped too...!

Not your problem
I never got hit and, from memory, never had a 1-on-1 where I did this turn into a mass con!
I watched my son play on Sunday and ran the line as a CAR. After the game I stepped in between two 15 year old lads who were squaring up to each other after gently levering them apart. The father of the protagonist then wanted to fight me in the car park for, 'Man handling his son.' Obvious where the son gets his anger problems from !
@Duncan Francis another prime example why I'd l eave them to it, especially at youth level.
