I was assistant ref on an u18 match. Game was called off due to the thuggish behaviour of the away team. I reffed them last week and they were horrible. I dished out 4 cards for dissent and in hindsight I was too soft in them.
Anyway, Sundays ref was a very experienced referee and they started with the dissent. Ref had a chat and told the offending player to stop, but he just carried on… out came the card
Game continues. More dissent from other players followed by foul and abusive language aimed at the ref…..out comes the red. I could go on and on, but I lost count of how many yellows and reds and even more reds after the game was abandoned during the first half.
Anyway. I found it all a useful learning experience.
I have a few questions though if I could pick some brains.
When a player refuses to give his name, what’s the procedure? Do we call the game off?
First player to come back from sin bin, pushed a player while running back to position for no reason at all other than to impose himself. Wasn’t a push that cause the player to fall to the ground, but it was aggression for no reason. Is it a straight red or another yellow card? And for what offence?
