Hey all, been asked to do a open age 5 a side league, any tips?

I've done a few local ones and never thought it was that bad but maybe that's just me.

Nothing but agro in my experience. Walked away after a player decided to pull a knife on another player.

I regularly get emails asking if I am available to cover 5/6-a-side leagues at the local uni and sports centres....

Won't touch them with a barge poll!

My son's team train on a few local astro pitches during the winter months, where leagues were being played on adjacent pitches. The general lack of respect for referees and other players in nothing short of disgraceful. Also played in enough of these games myself to know they just are not worth the hassle. Not to mention the fact the fees they are willing to pay barely cover the fuel costs!

On a similar note, I've been asked to referee a walking football tournament a week on Saturday, any advice for that?

That could be interesting, certainly a different class of participants.

OA 5 a side, I wouldn't go near if you want to develop as a referee.

Walking tournament, I think you could have an enjoyable day with some interesting characters.

It's for charity and needed to do something before I move to uni in September.
