Figueroa "tackle"

Nasty. Surprised more hasn't been said in the media.
There is no way this should escape a ban (although I'm sure the referee.... blah blah... coming together... blah blah... rerefereeing etc etc)

The Ref Stop
Bruce apparently blamed it on blades even though Figueroa was wearing studs. The relative lack of clamour for retrospective action is probably due to the two teams involved.

He needed 12 or so stitches, it really cut open his leg....

As for the tackle itself....well, very hard to spot in real time. Even on the video I could understand giving him the benefit of the doubt, but yeah, looks malicious.

If with th cap'n, very hard to spot in real time. Much like, I believe, the Ashley Barnes one. The hindsight of a million replays does make it look worse. I'm not a huge fan of things being re refereed but I'm surprised due to the nature of this injury more hasn't been made of it.

Referee saw it? Nice one. Good work FA.

Can the EPL refereeing community sink any lower this season?

SM EDIT: please remember that top flight officials are referees like us at the end of the day and deserve the same respect on this forum. You can of course voice your opinion or dissatisfaction but please be careful with comments which could be construed as offensive.

EDIT: 4 match ban given for this at least
Well done to Mike Dean for having the courage of conviction to admit to not seeing it.
Been one of our top refs for a long time now.

A bad tackle I agree but did anyone see the tackle by him before hand, the main reason Figueroa went in like this?

Irrelevant. No excuse for such an awful challenge, though I agree Ireland should have been sent odd beforehand.
Irrelevant when referee is making his decision, yes. And although no one wants to see an injury like Stephen Ireland's, I can't help escape the feeling that it is now 1-1.
