Don't think there is any provision for a ban, it can only be a fine

Pretty sure there would be provision for a ban, if they so chose, although I think it's fairly clear they won't.

World Cup 2026 regulations, Section 34.3 prohibits any political slogans being displayed by players.



And while Article 34.3 doesn't list any specific punishment, Article 7 makes a general provision that the FIFA disciplinary code applies.



The FIFA disciplinary code allows for a range of sanctions, including fines and suspension from matches.



Also, there is precedent - UEFA banned Spain's Alvaro Morata and Rodri for one game for chanting ‘Gibraltar is Spanish’ after they beat England in the Euro 2024 competition.

And also in the rugby there was a great example of why football won’t want to publicise communications live when the TMO was having an argument with the referee as to the award of the potentially result changing last minute try!
