Can anyone explain to me please the difference between the two elbow/forearm incidents in the Bournemouth/Villa and New/Chelsea games? I thought right from the outset both were worthy of red cards.

Mings doesn’t throw the elbow or arm. It comes up for certain but with the player coming from his blindside is a contributing factor to the incident. He doesn’t look behind him, and the arm goes up in part to make himself bigger. If he takes a swing or throws is backward then it’s different matter.

Jackson has a look at the Newcastle player first and then ensures he makes forceful contact. Not trying to play the ball or defend it hence different outcome.

I felt Mings clearly looked behind and was well aware of the player approaching, but we all see things differently

I agree that Mings knew where Scott was, and he then raised his arm to block him off but didn't really swing it. Whereas Jackson had a look and then swung his elbow.

If it wasn't for the injury to Alex Scott I don't think much would have been made of the Mings challenge. Not saying it can't be a red card, but rather it was very different to Jackson's.
