Supposedly people in the ground said that the AR put his flag straight up in the air around a minute after the goal was scored, so it does look like offside was penalised. It still doesn't look off to me, but accept it might look like it was from a different angle, we see that with VAR all the time.

Still not sure I understand the process though. It is so tight that clearly the only person that can decide whether it was offside or not was the active AR, he then must see the offside player collide with the opponent, so I'm struggling to see why the flag didn't go up there and then. The referee and AR are clearly both happy after the goal was scored, so why would it take one of the other two to come in and tell them they were wrong?

Having seen the referee in question recently put in what I would describe as one of the worst refereeing performances I have ever seen at that level, where he got 3 out of 4 KMDs wrong, I really do think he is struggling badly and might well have been promoted too quickly. And I say this as a supporter of a team that got the benefit from the incorrect decisions, plus as people on here will know I always try to look at why referees might come to the conclusion they did. Even if this particular decision was indeed correct, the management of the situation and communications around it certainly wasn't good.

Looking at all of the stuff from the media online, they’re all pointing towards offside. If it is offside, it’s a potentially fantastic call. But the process to get there was absolute pants.

If nothing else, this has been a good incident to think about. My view of events has softened the more I've thought about it
I had something similar yesterday. The difference being, I had to immediately run to my AR to converse
The process in the OP has been wrecked by Comms. If Sam had ran to the AR (instead of lengthy covert discussions), we wouldn't be talking about this.
Run to the AR and everyone applauds fantastic teamwork. Instead, it drew the opposite form of attention
