The Ref Stop

Controversial Decision

Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off.
Constructive. Appreciate it.

The Ref Stop
Situations like this are always going to be contested with different referees seeing slightly different outcomes. As described by others the main thing for me are proximity and angle to the KMI. These two things put you in the best position to make the right call but also give you credibility to sell the decision whatever it is. If you push wide and deep here your probably also end up more confident with the decision you have made. It’s a great lesson to learn and can really improve the quality of our refereeing.

For me, it was six of one and half dozen of the other so no pen for me though I can see why you gave it (though would have had to be a RC for DOGSO too?). The differing views on here highlight why we can't expect players/coaches/parents/fans to think we get everything right!

I have read about running for the angle and seen a seminar on Youtube about it once from some senior referee somewhere.

I know it is the right thing to do. Just a habit to sprint back hard. I find right now I can apply one or two pieces of advice a game, then need a load of games to consolidate.

So basically, I know I should be running wide for the angle. However, in this case I did not due to inexperience.
Your legs are far too short (must be a Navy thing  :D) which is why your positioning at that moment suffered. Consider having them stretched or wearing smaller shorts.

Hope this helps ...
:p

Posting a question on this forum is like going to your grocery store for a bottle of milk but coming back home with a bag of fruit, chips and chocolate, some canned soup and a bucket of ice cream for a bonus.
Damned right too Digger!! Long may it continue... ;) :D

It is a trade off. Shorts are too long, but they fit the belly just fine.
