WHU (2) vs LEI (3) - Ayew shoots wildly over the bar (lashed at it) - Huth makes last ditch slide and looks to catch Ayews standing foot a fraction after the shot is away. Any where else this is a DFK (unless a clear advantaged is gained)- in this scenario the contact comes after the shot and before the ball leaves the field of play- so penalty? Credibility of this decision not good granted.

On second look Huth actually looks to pull out so I don't think he catches him any way. However opinions on the above scenario please.

Surely a foul after the ball has been played is still a PK. If while taking the shot another defender pushed a different attacker it would be a penalty so the fact the ball has gone is surely irelevent?

This has been discussed a number of times in various threads.

If the ball is still in play, it's still a foul, but since when has the letter of the law been applied correctly at professional level? Late contact in the box after a pass or shot is certainly one of those laws that is often ignored.

For that kind of situations, it should be possible (change of laws needed) to give a yellow or red card without awarding a penalty. Card, goal kick and move on. Would seem logical and fair.
