Seemingly before play had been stopped for the foul, the sent off player had committed an act of VC inside the penalty area.

That's what I assumed must be the case, although I'd read a report suggesting that the red card was for a punch that occurred in a melee that occurred after the award of the FK. If that were the case, the penalty would be an incorrect way to restart the game wouldn't it?

Ah, fair enough, I guess I must have misunderstood the sequence of events then!

Watch it again, 28 seconds, top of the screen just left of the sky sports logo. Also its two different players, 15 gets a yellow, 5 gets sent off.
