Booking Procedure

In the current league that I am refereeing in, and most leagues if we're being totally honest don't have team sheets which match the correct players number.

Any advice in order to speed up the whole procedure, I've got write on card stickers, but the numbers very rarely match up to what the players are wearing. I find myself pulling out the team sheet, cross referencing the players name, but I find this procedure very messy, slow and finding myself distracted and potentially missing something else which is going on.

Any advice?

Call player in, ask name, write down name, show card. X-check at half/full time against team sheet

If the game/situation allows (as in not heated, not difficult player), I call in player for offence, tell why, ask name, show card then let them move away to position while I'm writing name down, trying to keep my wits about me as I do it. Otherwise just slow it down and ask name, write it down then show card.

I find the first way has worked for me for a couple of seasons now, before that I always did the second way.

The only real option is to use a notebook and write the full name down along with the number. I certainly wouldn't be pulling the team sheets out, not only is it a distraction but in dodgy weather you risk them becoming a slushy mess.
