No YC for Bailly at the pen?

How is it not dogso-r downgraded to yc - or reckless yc?

(Ash Young playing in WC semi doesn't mean he isn't past it... btw... shocking today)

Yeh, was careless by definition. Was mistimed and think a genuine enough attempt for the ball so the SPA is not punished.

If Murray gets the ball he is 10 yards from goal with a clear shot at the whole goal.
It's denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity by definition.
Bailly totally wiped him out with a sliding tackle from behind.
Anywhere else on the field it's an easy YC.

I'm not even sure he's getting to the ball before it goes out of play. If he does get to it, it would be very close to the goal line about 10 yards wide of goal. I guess it's pretty clearly SPA, but since it was in the penalty area and an attempt on the ball it turns into no caution. Not even really that close to DOGSO IMO.

The Brighton player sees the challenge coming and nicks the ball away, drawing the foul.

Baillys intentions are honest so its genuine attempt for me.

Direction is away from goal with the touch, and as @cwyeary says its debatable whether he will regain control due to the heavy touch.

Lindelof is also in close quarters and closing down so for me it wouldnt even have the feelers going.

Straight forward cut and dry, foul, pen, no card for spa as genuine attempt.

I got impression somebody thought cos he made an attempt for the ball its no card
Thats a yc for me, deliberately playing legs/tripping

You dont negate the yc just cos you give the pk

As above says, thats a yc at the half way line

I dont think the foul warranted a caution on its own merit. It was careless so for me, no card, as per the above.
 
Anyway, Utd were awful with a capital Jose!
Two most exciting players on the bench. Pog really got up the ref's nose in the second half. Young was dismal. Fred was anonymous.
United look most threatening when Felly chests down a route one.
Love to have been a fly on the wall at HT/FT to hear Jose. Does he even bother? One stat showed Bton had run about 40% more than Utd or something...

location and number of defenders: one defender and the goal keeper
Fails three of the criteria for DOGSO for me.

SPA with a penalty is no card when attempting to play the ball.

Nowhere near a reckless challenge for me. the defender's foot and slide is in front of the attacker and its a simple careless trip.

Pen and no card is a good decision.
 
We have a caution tick in Scotland for...trips an opponent

Am not looking into the pk being awarded, simply the trip

Does football expect a yc here?

I sat thru 128 of Cwyearys UEFA match analysis situations to get me primed for my holiday. Only got 16 wrong btw, but based on those videos, this one looks marginal
I'd just give the football expects penalty, take the plaudits for being a top ref, with cards safely in my sky rocket awaiting launch control
 
If that tackle was made in the middle of the park I'd be cautioning...

SPA doesn't even into it here, was going for a goal kick anyway. The way he's gone in was there really any prospect of winning the ball?

I think so. Its just mis timed. If you look at the time between the bha player playing the ball and the contact with Bailly Its milli-seconds. In fact his foot at one point is maybe a couple of centimetres from getting the ball.
Its just ill judged in terms of timing and I dont really see it as a reckless challenge on its own merit.
