Am I right in thinking VAR cannot get involved for a second yellow red card?

Because this seemed incredibly soft and not what I would ever call reckless

Correct, VAR cannot get involved in cautions, even if it is a second one. Whilst I think it is a little harsh, in a UEFA game it could be a caution every time as he landed on the opponent's foot and their officials are told this must be a caution.

Bit harsh but in fairness having not seen the whole game it may have been for C3? Either way not very sensible for someone on a yellow

I'm actually struggling to see how he fouled him if I'm honest.
Didn't look like any contact was made by the Brighton player and the Bournemouth player over ran the ball and tried to get there by sliding before the Brighton player got there.

I'm with the above post, this is barely even a foul for me, and the minimal contact that does occur is a natural running motion combined with an opponent sliding into him.

The referee was very slow to go to his pocket - he's either been recommended a caution by one of the assistants (who should theoretically all be in a worse position then him), or made a decision based off the injury IMO.

It's right in front of the Bournemouth bench, and you can see a Bournemouth coach in the ear of the 4th official, so I would guess the advice came from him.
