Out of interest on this, does anyone know what our semi-automated offsides will be? The delay has been ongoing for a while now, are they just waiting it the Puma ball to come in next year?

They were trying to use some AI fudge but the trials weren't going well.

Just use it and have the VAR pick the correct frame, would still be far quicker than it is now.

Although not an ideal angle either, I think the still below gives us enough information to draw a conclusion.

This is the moment the ball hits Trossard's knee and given where his foot is, and what we know about human anatomy I think it's a fairly safe bet that the ball would not have been wholly over the line at this moment.

Agreed but not VAR. It's an extension of GLT wherever it is available. It is quick and a buzz on the watch can tell ref ball is out of play.

You can add TI to it as well, as a goal can from it too(not directly)

GLT won’t tell you whether it is GK vs CK.

I don't believe anyone here is saying it missed trossard. The question is was the ball in play when it did hit him, and it's hard to be absolutely sure.

Imho, revisiting corners via VAR after a goal has been scored, would create massive issues if you are starting to change decisions after a restart. Nothing would ever be final and be able to be moved on anymore. That would be terrible situation for refs at any level without var.

What I meant with my comment earlier was we can only go as far back as the restart, in theory (you may not even go that far back etc). Once a restart has happened, everything before is irrelevant. Even if wrong.
But we could somehow avoid it if very quick checks for attacking benefits occur such as "who did it last touch". Was there offside?
VAR could very easily clear that up in no time. Wouldn't need to be used often at all as in most cases it's blatantly obvious. As for offsides, there have been occasions where offsides have been missed leading to corners that could actually also lead to goals. We check them if they score. But the thing that could lead to a goal is ignored.

Though I also know that we don't want too much checked. So a good old catch 22.

I think there is a huge difference between looking to see if it really was a CK or a GK, which should be very quick, and checking for OS in the lead up, which could take much more time. And if you open up OS before a CK, you kinda have to open it up for OS before a FK in the attacking part of the field.
