3 passes later it's in the back of the net. Had that been a foul/offside/handball VAR gets involved. Why not for this?

I would suggest that's not correct and at least one is in the air.

Impossible to tell from that far away, it only needs the tip of his toes to be touching the ground to be legal, you really need a side on view.

On the original question, I believe, but am not positive, that VAR can only review actions in play, not a prior restart.

(I also don’t think you can tell if it was an improper throw from that shot. It looked funny, but funny is not improper.)

Said it many times before - a throw in is just a means of getting the ball back into play.
Unless it's glaringly obvious that it's an unlawful throw... play on.

Yet I have seen throw ins pulled up in PL with absolutely nothing wrong with them. Only that they were thrown slightly downwards.

Totally agree with you. Looks to me that both his feet are (just) on the ground at the moment of release. Certainly not obvious enough to call ... falls into the 'ugly but legal' camp for me
