In my opinion, we will always need "in the referee's opinion" because you cannot guarantee a ref being in exactly the right position every time to make a decision. And even if you could, everyone would argue about what the right position was.
Last season, when accused by a manager of being inconsistent I called across "At least I am being inconsistent equally to both sides." He didn't have a reply for that.
