I’ve been nominated for promotion to 3W after achieving the necessary criteria. I know it’s now up to national FA to decide to promote me. I have a few questions

Does anyone know when you tend to find out? I know it’s before the end of the month but that’s about it.

Also - I’ve heard conflicting things about the fitness test. I’ve heard a lot of 3Ws have never even had a fitness test (assume they got the promotion before this was a requirement). The promotion pack actually says there is no fitness test for 3W but I’m pretty sure this is incorrect, which is pretty bad for an official FA document. Finally, is the fitness test the same as 5-4? Again, I was under the impression that it was, but another referee has told me that it’s slightly easier than the 4 test.

Appreciate that I have a few questions so welcome any thoughts!

Yes there is a fitness text for all 3w's the criteria to meet is the same as L4 mens, there is a slight increase in the sprint timings

"Following recent communication both internally and externally it has been agreed that, as part of the desire and need to raise standards within the Women's Game, that the fitness test for Assistant Referee's will now need to be completed by any match official wanting to operate as a 3WAR within the Women's Pathway.

As a reminder, the 3WAR fitness test consists of 6 x 40 metre sprints in 6.40 seconds (or below), followed by a 10-lap interval run in segments of 17 / 24 seconds. The previous correspondence stated this would only need to be completed by those wanting to operate as an AR at Tier 3 however this has now been amended to cover both Tier 3 & 4. For clarification, if you wish to operate as an AR and are unable to pass the fitness test then you will be reclassified to the support pool of ARs.

The 3W referee fitness test has not changed."

Not forgetting your need the complete the medical certificate as well - the link for all of these should be sent to you on successfully being selected onto the pathway..

Perfect, thanks for the info! Does it tend to be toward the end of May that you find out?

Also, are the fitness tests done on the same sessions as level 4?

Can't confirm the timings - but normally around the end of may/early june as you need to have time to book on a session. They are run with the L4's and also some sessions on their own.

Thank you, very helpful.

If you fail, do you get other opportunities to attempt the test throughout the season?

") How many attempts do I have to take the fitness test in the Women’s Game?
A) The fitness test can be taken a maximum of once per month (Total 2 attempts). It is not possible to complete the Women’s Game fitness test in September but a mop-up will be offered in
December. "

Is the official response.. ;)
