Thanks for the responses.
To be honest the description of the player being a bit of a bully was correct. Hes a big chap for his age. He was definitely throwing his weight around and genuinely didn't know he was manhandling his team mate. The lads had a laugh about it after and I joked that I...
So did an u15s game yesterday. Nice and easy but I had an interesting situation I hadn't seen before.
One large chap was getting a bit pushy in the box. Gave 2 freekicks against him at attacking corners. However the third time he was looking at the ball and as he adjusted his position he came...
I'm a little disappointed in myself but it's definitely a learning point.
More so the fact that the defending team didnt really complain and the subsequent penalty was a turning point in the game. It was an equaliser and they went on to win 4-2.
That's the interesting thing that makes me think I shouldn't have given the pen.
He deliberately tried to clear the ball with his shoulder, but it clearly hit his arm and no one argued when I gave the pen.
The more I think about it he never intentionally handballed it.
I also bottled it...
I don't know. it was an awkward height and he got to it very late while it was on the goal line. Think it was just the only thing he could swing enough momentum into to get it away from goal.
So had a bit of strange one yesterday and wondered what others would do?
mis-hit shoot loops over the keeper and towards an empty net. Defender rushes back to the line. Was bouncing at an awkward height. Player very deliberately tries to throw his shoulder at the ball to hit it away.... but as...
Thanks all.
I've taken the advice on board. I defintely have to push through with more yellows for dissent. But I'm definitely learning. I'll stick with my decisions regarding throws and handballs and try to be more vocal.
Think I just needed some support from other refs to make sure I was...
Hi all,
Returned to the whistle this season after a couple years out. As a fairly new ref I know I have lots to learn but I'm confident that my application of the laws is good and each game gives me learning points to help me improve.
So reffed a cup game yesterday. 2 premier league teams. One...
I have to Agree with HRWs comments. cards do not diffuse a situation. They just increase the hatred of the referee. Cards are required on occasion with the occasionally idiot but if you are consistent and get a firm grip of a game early on, respect is earned and makes a game a lot easier. Cards...
I've been refereeing this season in my first year and was enjoying the challenge and learning lots of new things.
However recently I've thought about hanging up the whistle as I'm finding it very hard to motivate myself. I don't want to sound like a snob and I was never the best player but I...
I gave a penalty in the 92nd Minute on Sat. Green stretches to tackle but trips Purple striker in the box. It was 3-3 at the time. Greens had thrown away a 3-1 lead too. :hmmm:
Got quite a bit of stick for that but it was definitely a Pen. I was being assessed too and he said I got it spot on.
I wear a black sweatband on the same arm as my whistle. When I realise I've incorrectly put the whistle towards my mouth i quickly follow up with a wipe of the brow/face instead.
Although it must look obvious what i'm up to.... no one has said anything yet.
Had my first assessment on Saturday (9 games in) and wasn't expecting anybody.
Didn't even notice he was there until the final whistle when he came on the pitch to shake my hand... I noticed his FA badge. D'Oh.
1. Application of Law:
Throughout the game you applied the Laws consistently and...
i'd never seen the second of all my days of playing, managing and refereeing. The player went in for a 70/30 (against him) with his face. I told him well done for being brave but had to give a free kick against him. It was on the halfway line / sideline. Crazy.
Yeah I sent the player off. However he seemed to fail to understand that threatening the life of an opposition was a red-card offence.
With the second one I gave an indirect FK. Although it was the player who jumped in the way with his body who was potentially causing himself some harm. I wasn't...
Couple of things happened today.
1. Red v yellow. Yellow takes out red and as they get up both are face to face (no contact) but yellow is extremely aggressive and says to red. 'If I see you later you're dead!'
2. A player falls to his knees and sees a defender about to clear the ball so he...
After my second league game of the season (first season) player informed me that I was a 'joke'. I told him 'I'm not here to make jokes, but heres a £10 fine. Thats not very funny is it?'
Made me chuckle anyway
I'm Tom.
I'm 29 and just recently qualified as a referee. I've played for over 15 years and coached a youth team for 7 years.
I decided i would become a referee one day after a shocking decision by a club linesman and then the referee got me an FA misconduct charge a few seasons ago. I felt I...
