    New Scottish FA Referee

I’m also based in Scotland and some Referee Associations offer a practical session after passing the LOTG exam. Mine certainly did. What you’ll find is that most of your learning will happen once you get out on the pitch. You will learn on the hop but I’d hope you will also be observed by more...

    Ross County v Aberdeen

I think it’s a red. Studs contacting the leg a good bit above the ankle endangering the opponent. Any lower probably yellow but just high enough for red imo. The commentator mentions him “winning the ball so cleanly” but he’s got to be in control of where his foot goes after winning the ball.

    Liv v Ars

Looks like he’s shrugged him off after Robertson grabbed his elbow and caught him a bit because he was so close. Nothing to see here imo but I dare say plenty will be made of it.

    IFAB Changes

Just the referees voice will be heard I believe. His explanation of the decision. Communication between him and VAR will not be made public.

    Celtic v Livingston offside

Called offside. Thoughts? Deflection or deliberate play? Attacker impacting the defenders ability to play the ball?

    France vs England

    Could definitely be considered reckless.

    ENG vs SEN

Really like the refs attitude. Relaxed and smiley at times, serious and authoritative when needed.

    Pre match chat with teams

When I played amateur (open age park football in Scotland) I rarely remember a refs pre match that I found insightful and necessary. On the contrary, it often made the ref seem busy and overly about himself. With this in mind, once I started refereeing I avoid any pre match chats with full...

    Luton vs Huddersfield

His positioning isn’t good but he’s got this spot on imo. There’s no real challenge to constitute a foul. 2 players running side by side jostling with a slight tangle Of legs initiated by the striker at the end.

    Arbroath v Inverness CT

1st red, there’s enough doubt as to whether he is getting control of the ball before the keeper gets there to discount DOGSO in my opinion. 2nd red, did he go straight red or 2nd caution? Don’t think it’s excessive force or endangering safety but it looks pretty reckless to me. Lunge, bit of...

    Real Madrid vs Man City

Scissor tackle is a shocker. Pull back on Foden also worth a caution for me. Dragging a player back by the top of his shirt forcing the neck back is definitely reckless.

How Much are Your Ref's Fees?

Ah thanks. Didn't realise that. Quite strange that girls football pays a lot more than boys club despite being far easier to officiate. Different governing bodies I guess.

How Much are Your Ref's Fees?

Absolutely this. I'm impressed with the time and commitment that some posters put in to their refereeing. I got in to it too late (37 years old) to make any real progress up the ranks but I still find the younger, more ambitious referees attitudes quite inspiring. The process of progression...

How Much are Your Ref's Fees?

U11s-U14s is £30 flat fee U15s-U16 is £34 flat fee Amateur mens - £40 going up to £50 next season I believe. Club Academy Scotland (pro youth)- £35 flat fee all age groups. Girls football from U16 up to ladies - £40 flat fee. I get the impression that I do a lot less travelling up here than...
