I really do see that argument, and I understand it’s the path of least abuse on a Saturday afternoon / Sunday morning. But laws aren’t a framework, they’re laws to be followed and we as referees really shouldn’t be picking and choosing which ones to ignore or not.

If the ball isn’t nearby when the ‘offside’ attacking player is fouled then he/she can’t be penalised for the offside, abs the foul must be awarded.

It really does seem that many of us now disagree with specific parts of the LOTG, particularly relating to offside; EVEN when the LOTG have clear paragraphs such as this one where a player in an offside position is fouled before playing or attempting to play the ball, you penalise the foul...

Also remember that the goalkeeper is out of play so any defender getting there also can’t use their hands so it improves the chance of scoring a goal even more

The sentiment that it is worrying that people here seem to think this is offside, despite the clear rules in the bullet points in law 11, is very valid; it is worrying.

Disagree entirely with everything you’ve said. Thought MO did everything he could to keep the game flowing and succeeded in providing an entertaining football match. Good job it’s all about opinions isn’t it.
