    Liverpool V Spurs

I believe the advice about not overruling at lower levels as that’s how I’ve gone about it in the past. Referee gives a clear no, I’ve not come in regardless. But I’ve had assessors telling me I should have and overruled because one was clear as day. I stick with letting the ref take the...

    Captains

It was disappointing more than anything, he was the most immature one on the team - so many better options but clearly the managers son or something.. Sadly got them again this weekend as the away team this time. I'll say nothing to the manager but if he's captain then I don't plan on using...

    Captains

Been a while since I've even logged on to here I'll be honest! Life getting in the way and all - still been having games though and finally going to make the leap and apply for L4. Anyway, you know the captains that are appointed because they're the manager's son but they've got a bad attitude...

To report the line, or not to report the line

Sorry for he delayed reply - I was flooded out of my flat earlier last week and car has been written off too. Nightmare week so living in hotels until a longer arrangement comes in. Thanks for the advice everyone, wasn't the nicest start to refereeing life in GM. Onwards!

    Mariner in Swans Chelsea...

I did think when I first saw it, potential for FK but replays required to confirm. However if I was closer I don't think a replay would be considered. The fact no one called for it means it would have been one of those surprise decisions we're warned about. Who would have given this?

To report the line, or not to report the line

Follow up question - if i didn't send the offending line away from the FoP, can I still report them? I later found out he was a named substitute... This is a mess I can just tell

To report the line, or not to report the line

CAR signaled out, opponent became irate (later CAR admitted it was a mistake so i can understand the frustration). However CAR and the assistant manager from that team became very aggressive back at the player who felt annoyed, at one point dropping the flag and inviting the player to approach...

    Junior/Youth Academy Game

I've been told this on both Merseyside academies, the reasoning is to give the bench a chance to discipline them - the clubs come down hard on academy players, they can do much more to them than a measly YC.

"You need to get control of this match ref"

This comment bugs me more than most. I? I need to regain control? Why, because you - grown adults - can't control yourselves? Grow the f*** up and get on with the game or go home.

    Mariner in Swans Chelsea...

It's accurately described, I'm sure when you see it you'll agree it should have been disallowed.

This took me completely off guard

Haaaaaang on..! This happened to me a couple of seasons ago as AR. I flagged, ref went with me. Everyone confused and when I explained to the assessor and ref at the end, I was told I was wrong..!

    Mariner in Swans Chelsea...

31 yards away from the foul on Cahill which was centre of the park - his area to watch, not the AR.. That's his mistake. The high foot, interesting point, but the MOTD pundit asked "are you serious!?" for even questioning it.. I'm interested to know other people's views but on the day, that...

    Open Age Absolute Disaster

Haha I used to have exactly this! I knew who touched it but i don't remember which way to point! I think when you get on a few lines that goes and you get into the swing of pointing quicker. Good luck!

    Back pain??

It's a nightmare, running around the pitch isn't the problem it's continuous running which is why i think it's impact related. Just need to make sure it's sorted for any fitness tests next year! Thanks for responses, at least i know i'm not alone!

    Open Age Absolute Disaster

Well done on your first games, it will be by far the hardest one you'll do. I remember my first game, it was 6 months after my basic course and was a vets cup game. Worst game ever, the rookie mistakes and the vets could sense the vulnerability (tip if you ever get the vets, they will try and...

...receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately...

Reading up on the good book: A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by: gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has: • rebounded or been deflected...

Can't help but agree with that - shame not everyone could speak so respectfully in differing opinions!

...receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately...

Is sticking their foot out not intentionally playing it though? Much like a hand going up would be handball because they've used their hands the make them self bigger?

    Just a little pull.....

I'm glad I could teach you something you've apparently never heard before! Does a player have to fall over to be put off? Distraction is a mental thing, no? Or could you not quite make that link as you were busy coming up with condescending outro's? Like deusex says, shouting is putting off an...
