It's not that bad, and could help the situation to calm down if used correctly. My favourite if someone accuses a team of time wasting after a shot has gone astray is to tell them to shoot on target next time. Soon shuts them up.

In one of my 7-6 assessments I got a comment that I should have been checking players names / kits for subs, despite the fact it was roll on roll off (maximum of 5 subs), and the league doesn't give out team sheets. This was the head assessor of the county too.....

Just a small update - After speaking to the Academy head, the idea is too have mentors and coaches for the refs, with the younger refs getting the mentors, and the refs who are already looking to go up the levels getting coaches. He said the majority are under 24, with a handful in the "older"...

I reffed a rather unpleasant game last weekend, which resulted in 2 red cards for the home team inside the 1st 30 minutes (1 for serious foul play, 1 for 2 x YC). I also had to overrule the CAR for an opposition goal, which resulted in the flag being thrown down and no one willing to replace...

Couple of points: 1) - Why was the home manager involved in the toss? It should be the 2 captains only, even at U14. 2) - Coaches squaring up at a kids game would be a massive no no for me. Completely against the respect guidelines. I would have been asking them both to leave.

All fair comments. Unfortunately, I went against what most of you are saying and changed the decision. I was in no way 100% of my original decision, and despite him being not neutral, trusted what the assistant had said. Learning point here is to take my time before making the decision.
