    Have you ever ...

I've turned up early to 2 RA meetings, and also late to a fixture last season. The home side has 2 home grounds, the match form I was sent had the main venue on, and then the game was moved to the other ground. I was supposedly told, but funnily enough I don't remember that! Not too much of an...

Martinelli incident - Southampton vs Arsenal FA Cup QF

Agreed. They are very different incidents.

Martinelli incident - Southampton vs Arsenal FA Cup QF

Exactly this. That was my thought process in the relevant response. Do I think it should be a red? 100% Could I support that using the LOTG? It's difficult

Martinelli incident - Southampton vs Arsenal FA Cup QF

This is what surprises me the most. I've seen a lot of fans (including a couple of Arsenal supporters) suggest they were expecting a red card. Based on the LOTG, it's a yellow. Based on common sense, it should be a red. In just about any other sport it would be.

Martinelli incident - Southampton vs Arsenal FA Cup QF

No but that’s exactly the same as the fact I would send a player off if they called me a cheat but wouldn’t if they said it to their opponent. It’s very different imho.

Martinelli incident - Southampton vs Arsenal FA Cup QF

Thought so. I'm absolutely astonished that Barrott didn't send him for an early shower. Doesn't set a great example!

Martinelli incident - Southampton vs Arsenal FA Cup QF

I've seen a lot of talk online about this incident where Martinelli appears to push the referee and only receives a yellow card. Would anyone be dismissing him for this? (Linked below)

    Arsenal vs Chelsea UWCL

I agree. I think it was 100% intentional. Either way, it's irrelevant in this incident IMHO. The referee missing it is bad but I can accept it, AR1 was presumably more focused on any possible offsides so that's fair enough, but the 4th should have seen that and, as you say, no excuse at all for...

    Ref across different FA/League

I am registered with Birmingham FA but referee across the West Midlands (Staffordshire, Shropshire etc). As long as all the stuff they need from you goes to the right county, it's really not that big of a deal. I personally chose to register with BCFA for the better development opportunities...

    Arsenal vs Chelsea UWCL

Katie McCabe has since claimed it wasn't intentional and she was aiming for the shirt, but it is still a clear red card. Absolutely shocking all round from the match officials (ref, 4th and VAR). Not one of them seeing that as a RC is beyond me.

    IFAB changes for 26-27

Taken from the protocol published under 'Documents' on The IFAB website: ... Award a corner kick to the opposing team on the side of the field closest to where the goal kick was to be taken

    England v Uruguay

Shocking. If anyone wants a laugh though, I just saw this text on Jablonski's wikipedia page: In an international friendly match between England and Uruguay on 27 March 2026, he failed to send off Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte despite having issued the player with two yellow cards. Fourth...

How lenient are you with OFFINABUS

None of those should really be let go, but especially not the last 2. The last one also 1000% needs an ER added. When it comes to OFFINABUS, my personal leniency level is virtually none existent. If it offensive or abusive, it is OFFINABUS by the very definition.

    Memory and Awareness

Only just seen this, but thought I would mention numbers on shirts really can help! I had a youth game last season where I needed to caution a player, and hadn't checked his number. It then turned out he had an identical twin on the pitch. I still don't know if I cautioned the right one 🫣 I just...

    Juve Vs Galatasary

Shambles. I think even a yellow card is a stretch there. A straight red is utterly ridiculous.

    Wolves v Arsenal

I personally think a yellow (C1 - BE) was fine here. A lot more needed to be done about the delaying the restart though. It was being done from the first minute to the last (almost exclusively by Arsenal) and absolutely no sanctions whatsoever were given.

    Qarabag v Newcastle Penalty

I agree it's not handball but in UEFA competitions there is zero tolerance. Pretty much any contact with the hand/arm is given in the UCL.

    Cautions into PSO

Interesting one that I don't know the answer too. Follow up question that came into my mind as a result: do previous cautions 'expire' at the full time whistle or when the PSO actually starts?

    Grimsby penalty

Yes. The FA has sanctioned quite a few players for it recently. It usually results in a 2 game ban

    Choice of advantage

Not something I'd do personally, but I can't see why it's wrong as such. Might open a can of worms of "favouritism/bias" though. To be honest I think 20 yards is enough of an advantage for me to just give the throw unless it's very obviously not an advantageous outcome.
