I was thinking the same. It makes the consequences of a red card meaningless.
This all started because of Ronaldo getting a suspended red card sentence. As I said. Corruption. Be it because of finance or friendship it’s still corruption.
Just to contradict myself a little. I thought ref today at England match was superb.
Thought he handled a tough match really well. Tough game to manage and he handled it really well. Carded at the right time to control the match.
Not sure why VAR getting involved in penalty. Thought it has to...
Well having just watched another game where the officiating was below what I expect of semi pro leagues, I stand by my original comment.
As for corruption. Making the World Cup bigger is definition of greed and corruption. FIFA has enough money, but is greedy. Surprising for a non profit?
And...
I think corruption in fifa has long been well established. I always defend referees. Even the best have an off day like anyone anywhere.
I stand by my point that we should only have the best referees in this tournament and I fail to see how refereeing in say the Qatar league can in anyway make...
It’s not a disrespect to him personally. The league he referees is nowhere near the level of a European league or even American league.
It’s like me claiming I can ref a premier league match given that I referee an amateur league.
I would love the chance, but no way am I remotely qualified...
Having watch so many games, I’m wondering if anyone else thinks the standard of referees is lower than normal. I mean it’s been low for many tournaments ever since blatter offered referee positions in World Cup for votes to keep him in power, but it seems lower than normal.
The last France game...
There have been some good performances, but they have been the exception rather than the rule.
More the point, what’s var for. This was clearly a foul. No idea why var didn’t get involved. Same with penalty in England match.
I’m sorry, but how does the ref allow that Germany goal. What’s the point of VAR?
I’m also sorry, the the level of officiating at the group stages of this World Cup has been atrocious. (In my opinion).
I’ve only just seen the sending off. I have to say that he touched him slightly. He went down like a bag of spanners and I actually thing it’s a dive.
I know I’ll will get criticised for this view, but it’s a booking for a dive for me.
That still doesn’t show the direction the ball is travelling and having a person to pass to isn’t a criteria for DOGSO.
Direction of travel was taking him wider.
Seriously…..how can they justify DOGSO on that last red cards
Does anyone think it was a red card offence?
Surely it’s an error and VAR should overturn it?
I don’t disagree. Is that a benefit or a hindrance of VAR? I feel referees at that level don’t make the big calls anymore and rely on VAR to make the call.
The result is only clear cut decisions being made. That maybe a good thing or it maybe a bad thing. Who knows? ;)
