Question about extra sub- extra time

Whilst supporting the view that 6 substitutes should be permitted when extra time occurs, the competition rule could be read as five must be in the 90 minutes, then one additional in extra time.

    Hot weather

Haven't seen anything new, so remains at referee's discretion when temperature is 25° or more in England.

    UEFA World Cup boycott

That would give @Big Cat a better chance of refereeing the final, perhaps. Or the sponsors may do without European referees(?) An interesting power struggle! Meanwhile the Wessex League are planning how to avoid the need to follow No10 to Manchester . . .

New LoTG - Injuries - Liking it!!

When the leagues with "rolling subs" start, we will see some interesting scenarios 😁

    pre-season delusion

Two sent off (correctly so) in a friendly Rochdale v Halifax Town - violent conduct. Cue moans about "only a friendly" The other aspect (possibly a World Cup hangover?) was that substitutes and coaches raced on to the f.o.p. and arrived at the scene at the same time as the referee, who moved in...

    Law 5 Clarification

For the benefit of those who are already confused, return can be during play after one minute off.

    Law 5 Clarification

IFAB confirmed that to be the case on Facebook in June, along with guidance about a player seriously injured, e. g. stopped breathing, is not required to go off for a minute🙄

    Law 5 Clarification

"An injured player may not be treated on the field of play and, where an injury results in play being stopped or the restart of play being delayed, the injured player must leave the field of play and may only re-enter one minute after play has restarted" unless one of the listed exceptions applies.

    The future of refereeing

We always ask course members (new referees) why they choose to take up the whistle. Around 70% mention money. It's seen as preferable to shelf stacking. Most are 14-16 years of age. We make the point that local and professional football are very different, something we cover in (e. g.) dissent...

    Argentina v Switzerland

My concern is that all the World Cup shenanigans may well be copied in local football in the new season. As all Observers know, and has been said here earlier, context is important - we look for an appropriate response to what happens during the game. Your approach is appropriate, but bearing...

    Argentina v Switzerland

Needs a clear message at the outset of the season, after FIFA turned two blind eyes.

    Argentina v Switzerland

Despite the fact that it's contrary to Law 12? The concern is that it becomes the norm, then becomes a chance to show off, then becomes provocative. Better to keep the genie in the bottle, rather than trying to reverse a behavioural trend, IMHO.

    Argentina v Switzerland

Allowing substitutes and coaching staff on the f. o. p. after every goal is also going to lead to issues at grass roots when the new season starts.

New LoTG - Injuries - Liking it!!

It's well worthwhile reading the relevant Law change re this point - the exceptions remain from last season (with the slight change of no time limit on assessment/treatment now) but the important new point is that if you stop the game because of an injury and the player declines the physio they...

    Panama Vs England

Interesting - I started with no interest in the overblown competition and haven't watched any of the games. Looking forward to 2026/7.
