    Panama Vs England

Can we please stop saying “the Yanks” did this? It was a FIFA decision, and I can assure you American football/soccer fans hate the breaks as much as everyone else. Sure, if it’s 32-35 C have them. But until this week (and obviously in domes), they aren’t necessary.

    Norway - France

I don’t see that as anything less than the dictionary example of a stonewall penalty. Oliver also couldn’t have been in a better position to see it. I’d still really like to see Oliver (and Turpin, for that matter) on one of these non-UEFA games like Turkey-Paraguay or Egypt-Iran. Both are...

    Belgium - Iran

The bigger issue I had with the DOGSO is that SO MUCH was being let go in that game, then you get pretty marginal contact whistled for a foul that has to be DOGSO based on circumstances.

    England v Croatia

For appearing to be a relatively small and unassuming type of guy, his presence is impressive. No drama, no massive “death stare”, no theatrics. Just a calm, quiet confidence. He’s the guy that doesn’t need to say much. He’s like the guy who sits in a meeting for 40 minutes, quietly taking...

    England v Croatia

Holy guacamole, England has attacking talent. Not quite sure about the defense, but it may not matter. England can just say “best defense is a great attack.” Turpin and crew with exactly the type of performance we would expect from that crew. Granted, both teams were playing and not engaging in...

Ah, we may be having a moment where American and British terms are crossing wires!! This link is what we call AstroTurf, which we hardly ever see except in hockey-style indoor games. This link is what we call FieldTurf, which we see A LOT in the States

Not passing judgment in any way, but we are WAY less particular about the shoes worn on FieldTurf (what we call 4G in the United States). Many, many referees wear flat-soled running shoes on turf/4G in the US with no restrictions from facility managers. For my last season of officiating this...

    ARG vs ALG

I just think Marciniak’s bar for both fouls and misconduct was way too high. Besides the Messi challenge, I felt like there were at least three other pretty obvious cautions missed just in the first half. Definitely a “do not try this at home” approach from Marciniak last night. He got away...

    Chelsea -v- Tunis (CWC) 24062025

For items like this, it would be nice if FIFA had some transparency about the reasons for the extra games. For example, if FIFA said something to the effect of one game for the standard sendoff penalty, one game for the aggravated nature of the onfield contact, and one game for failing to leave...

Decision on challenge - how would you have handled this?

I'm glad I was able to spur some discussion on this topic. Trying to summarize everything, it appears I should have given a caution for USB-reckless challenge. However, at least I called the foul and indicated that this type of challenge doesn't have a place in the game. This gives me some...

Decision on challenge - how would you have handled this?

Appreciate that. I thought about cautioning, but figured calling the foul was likely enough to make it clear you can't go into any challenge like that. For me, I at least wanted to make sure I was in the right to call some sort of foul.

    Fractured Metatarsal

I'll add my own best wishes to you and my personal story as another data point (and recognizing this is a dead thread, so I'll keep it quick). I had a cyst on my foot last spring. Went in to get the cyst removed, and the cyst was actually growing out of the nerve on the outside of my foot. The...

Decision on challenge - how would you have handled this?

I spent a few minutes trying to write a good title, but couldn't. I'll just explain the play and ask for advice from the board. High school "junior varsity 2" match, which is the third tier of teams for the schools. Many of these players are either multi-sport athletes playing to stay in shape...

    MCI vs BOU

Both sendoffs were very good calls. First one is a clear DOGSO. Second one is a foul that sometimes isn't sanctioned as SFP in the professional game, but should be. Really liked seeing both sendoffs correctly called on the field instead of needing to utilize VAR to overturn the onfield call.

    Spurs vs Newcastle

I know it's been mentioned by others, but it's important to remember that the bolded part has zero relevance to whether a potential offense is handling or not. The ONLY two instances where "accidental" handling (I know that's not officially a term in Law, but I'll use it here for brevity) is...

    Tottenham vs Chelsea

Jon Champion was the play by play commentator on the US NBC broadcast, and about 27 minutes in he had the perfectly understated assessment of the referee crew’s performance. “(He) has a light hand on the tiller.”

    Darren Fletcher successful appeal

That last paragraph is so bad. Not that you posted it, but that the board reduced the penalty based on the guilty party saying, “sorry won’t happen again”. Of course it will happen again! You know what will keep it from happening again? Making the guilty party serve the full suspension.

    David Coote leaked video

That was my thought. This has all of the makings of a social media smear campaign. Even if allegations are true, the method and regular timing of the allegations is much more about clicks than an investigation.

    Fitness improvement

So to add onto the HIIT discussion, what are some low-impact HIIT exercises people are doing? I had foot surgery to remove a cyst back in May. That cyst ended up being in a nerve, so the surgery cut into the nerve. I made it through this season, but had to deal with numbness on the outside of my...

In addition to the great advice provided by @Big Cat , I also think you need to add some "next level" types of work to make the test seem a little easier. Here's one example to help illustrate the point. For our college officiating association (NISOA) in the United States, they still have the...
