Red card for stopping a goal with your hand but only a yellow for scoring one?

It’d be the same decision with less pressure on the referee - if you give PK + RC for denying a goal today, you give a penalty goal + YC under a revised law. If there are grey areas they’re the same ones that exist now.

    Forest v Newcastle

My first reaction to the Anderson disallowed goal was that the ball was played to Longstaff by the Forest defender, starting a new phase of play and therefore not an offside offence - and certainly not C&O for VAR to overturn. Is there something I'm missing?

    Newport v Bradford keeper handball

Can you also opt for no caution here in the circumstances? If the keeper doesn’t misjudge the line he just collects the ball a few yards back (I think). At no point is there an OGSO or a promising attack.

    West Ham vs Chelsea

Yeah that’s a penalty - you can’t use the “falling” argument if you’re doing it to save a shot…

    Liverpool v Chelsea

Good one for a training course and good spot from the VAR - not sure I’ve seen an offside before where the offside player has been so clearly “behind” the team-mate who played the ball (though ahead of the ball).

    New Ful

Does the VAR not spot this? Could understand (just) a ref saying the tread on Trippier’s foot was normal contact and Trippier’s challenge was a pen, but overturning for C&O seems plain wrong when the attacker has clearly stepped on him first

    New Ful

To be fair the challenge on Longstaff was about 5 yards ahead of where he marched them back to…

WC Final - Argentina vs France

Referee was phenomenal today - brilliant no pen decision on 87 mins, perfect match control, one of the greatest games of all time. Whole team should be very proud

CRO vs BEL Matchday 11 - Taylor (ENG)

For a start, it’s limited by the frame rate of the camera - at 60 frames a second the ball could have been played anytime in that 1/60 of a second gap. If a fast player is moving at top speed (say 10m/s), then that’s a 17cm margin of error - even if jogging at 2m/s, you still have a 3cm margin...

POL vs ARG Matchday 10 - Makkelie (NED)

Implication is that a GK can’t dive to catch a ball or save a shot without risking a pen if his hand lands on an opponent. Do we expect keepers not to jump?

POL vs ARG Matchday 10 - Makkelie (NED)

It’s just not a pen - again totally insane that VAR is calling that C&O

BEL vs CAN Matchday 4 - Sikazwe (ZAM)

    That’s a trip, surely?

BEL vs CAN Matchday 4 - Sikazwe (ZAM)

What’s going on? That looked C&O too on first glance…

BEL vs CAN Matchday 4 - Sikazwe (ZAM)

VAR penalty for handball obviously correct, but looked to me like they should have had another one shortly afterwards - clearly not offside so surely they should be checking the penalty?!

    GER v ENG

Aha, you’re right - never mind!
  17. David F

    GER v ENG

Isn’t Kane offside for the penalty?
  18. David F

    Wales v Ukraine

Looked a nailed-on penalty not given after VAR check - striker clearly nips in to get the ball and gets kicked by the defender. I guess slightly unusual in that both are moving in the same direction away from goal, but still feels like a pen?

    HUD v FOR

Also thought the simulation yellow was the right call, but had a pen been given I wouldn’t overturn it as VAR.

    RMA vs LIV

With the current interpretation of the law, inclined to think it wouldn’t have been given as a backpass - so potentially a reason to call it offside. Like I said though, genuinely not sure. Interesting implication of this is that an attacker can play the ball backwards, then have it...
