Quick indirect free kick in the box.

That's probably fair. This is why I thought the question 'do you want to take it quickly' was wrong in the previous set of guidelines. However I do see your point. I guess I ask 'do you want 10' as I thought it was the most neutral thing you could ask without influencing them, as it where. I...

Quick indirect free kick in the box.

For mine it's only ceremonial if they're asking for 10. (Or there's a sanction to be dished out, or an injured player etc.) I can't see any reason why there even needs to be this arbitrary time limit some suggest. My only question around the box when a free is given is 'do you want 10?'. If...

Quick indirect free kick in the box.

Nah. How does pointing at where it's to be taken negate the opportunity to take it quickly. By that logic signalling a free kick anywhere on the field by pointing at the location of the foul stops any player from taking it quickly. If they ask me for 10 then I tell them 'fine, wait for the...

Quick indirect free kick in the box.

To be honest I don't think it's a predicament at all. Quick free kicks are fine by me anywhere on the field. (And I'm glad that they're also allowed in the box.) Good on any player smart enough to seize the moment. I am surprised at the amount of referees that won't allow it simply because...

Quick indirect free kick in the box.

Hopefully I won't get burnt to a crisp for posting this but here goes. Deliberate backpass to GK from a defender. Blew it up and indicated where it was to be taken (on the 6 yard line where the GK picked it up) and that it was an IFK. Whilst the opposition were scrambling and trying to set up...

    World cup final

I've said this from the very beginning of when the VAR was introduced into Australia as a trial last season. There needs to be a time limit. If the referee can't decide within x, y or z seconds (lets say 20) then it's neither 'clear' nor 'obvious' and the original decision, whatever it was...

    Heads or tails?

In my experience at least I've noticed that when asking 'heads or tails' pre-match about 7 or 8 out of 10 captains will call 'heads'. I've no data to back this up just something I've noticed. Anyone else come across this or am I suffering from confirmation bias?

Player drinking water on the field

Thanks. Just wanted to know if there was any actual rule.

Player drinking water on the field

Turned around on Saturday after the ball was being retrieved for a throw in to see a player standing inside the field of play drinking from a water bottle. What is the actual rule regards drinking on the field in this instance? As a corollary what if he passes the bottle back before the player...

VAR controversy - Simulation or trip?

Direct from the ivory tower itself. http://theifab.com/news/historic-step-for-greater-fairness-in-football The philosophy of VARs is ‘minimum interference – maximum benefit’ which aims to reduce unfairness caused by ‘clear and obvious errors’ or ‘serious missed incidents’ in relation to: Goal...

    VAR in Russia with Love

Will be in Russia for the WC and will be booing vociferously every time VAR is used. (Unless it goes in Australia's favour and then it's fair enough. 'bout time they started using technology.)

VAR controversy - Simulation or trip?

Acceptable margin of error is 10 seconds for upstairs to review it. If they can't tell the decision stands. They bring the replays up within the games on telly more or less immediately so there's no excuse. And it's supposed to be for 'CLEAR AND OBVIOUS ERRORS' right? If you can't pick it up...

VAR controversy - Simulation or trip?

The discussion in this thread is exactly why the VAR is a joke. 20 people, half a dozen opinions. (Most of them perfectly valid.) All they have done is move the controversy from the bloke in the middle to the bloke in the box. They've fixed nothing and damaged the essence of football...

VAR controversy - Simulation or trip?

Note the player in white (Perth) calling for the VAR to be used. (24 second mark). To great fanfare in the A-League it was announced that any player requesting a VAR check was supposed to be given a yellow. No ifs, no buts. That lasted about 2 games and now it's open slather. Anyway for...

    VAR in Russia with Love

Correct decisions or not it's the emotional part of football that they have killed stone dead with this.

    Ha ha. Brilliant. Well deserved.

    Dale v Spuds

Don't know if you can but would love to see just one ref do it one day. 'Free kick here and a yellow for you Sunshine'. 'What for ref?' 'The ridiculous exaggeration. Unsporting conduct, on your bike.'

A couple of lines drawn by a 7 year old.

No, it needs to be binned. The beauty of football is the unadulterated joy that occurs when a goal is scored. This now botches the whole process and sucks the very life out of the magic that is football. Pass goes across, goal scored, quick glance at linesman by supporters, flag is down, cue...
