    Q4 promotions

You are definitely wrong about this. As of the start of this season the match count and MDC count never reset unless you have a full year with no games.

    West Ham Vs Arsenal

That's exactly what happened. He tried to pull out of the challenge but ended up bringing him down anyway. I thought the ref had a good game. He missed one foul on Jesus where his boot was removed and they went on to score from the restart but if missing one foul is worst thing that happens...

    Q4 promotions

This is a bit misleading. Assuming you're on 7->6 or 6->5 there is no deadline. Unless you don't do any games for a year all your games, tests and and coach reports carry over indefinitely.

    Touchline flags - assistant referee

I thought they were virtually identical.

You're preaching to the converted here. Tell Ed ;)

    Q4 promotions

Presumably they must eventually either pass, fail, or withdraw? How do you decide whether to promote them at the end of the following period, do you send more coaches out?

    Q4 promotions

I write web application software which 16 CFAs use to administer their promotion schemes. Among those CFAs there have been 1748 promotions started. 34 candidates have withdrawn. 306 have been promoted. Guess how many have failed.

    Q4 promotions

In practice this is exactly what it means. I've been told unofficially that the FA refereeing dept might be open to discussing failing a candidate if the CFA presents a case but there is no formal or official process for not promoting somebody who meets the criteria. That was basically the whole...

    Q4 promotions

If it's promotion to 6 or 5 it can't be before 30th April. Most CFAs will tell you within a week of that. Most of them don't use committees to decide promotions at that level any more, promotion is more or less automatic once the criteria are reached. Remember there's no marks.

    Fulham Suspensions

Virtually everyone who works at my CFA is also a referee, including the CEO. They're actually pretty good.

    Coaches and refereeing

The problem is that there is a dire shortage of coaches. I coach a U10 side and we could easily have two or even three teams at that age but there's no coaches. The absolute minimum qualification for coaching is being able to put on sessions which are safe and fun. And that is exactly what the...

Sending off situations: How common are they?

I probably issue 4 or 5 a season. It's a very well run league with old clubs who have multiple teams and who take behaviour seriously. I briefly did a midweek league where I was issuing a red card every other game, including an abandonment when a player knocked my red card out of my hand. I...

    Friendly appointments

I can't see a problem if it's a friendly and one of the clubs has requested it.

    Coaches and refereeing

That must be a while ago. I did level one about 5 years ago and there was no mention of laws of the game. In fact there barely anything on football at all, it was all about 1) safety and 2) making it fun. Which I think is fine. I've just done the UEFA C coaching course and there's nothing in...

    7 to 6 and 6 to 5 - New Criteria

It stands for In Service Training. It's a day where you and a bunch of other refs get coached.

    Pre match chat with teams

I don't do this myself but I've seen a couple of refs say to the skippers at the coin toss, "If one of your players starts getting chirpy it's better for you and him if you speak to him before I do." That sounds sensible and usually gets a nod of approval from the captains.

    Referee and Tax

It seems to be a sort of gentlemen's agreement that HMRC turn a blind eye to referee earnings. Strictly speaking it's taxable like any other earning. Your match fee is intended to cover your expenses. Of course since much of your outgoings are fixed (eg. kit) whether you end up with a profit...

When is a Throw In back in play

If it bounced on the line then it was in play. In order to be off the FOP the whole ball must be the other side of the whole line.
