    Arsenal Vs Brighton

Anyone else think there was a foul on Gabriel right before Brighton's first goal? It looks like somebody treads on his heel and his shoe comes off.

    When is he offside

If a player in an offside position attempts to head the ball, unopposed, but and misses, does that count as "challenging for the ball"?

    Arsenal Vs Brighton

A friend of mine is there and confirmed exactly this.

    Arsenal Vs Brighton

Apparently the assistant on the bench side signalled for offside from a throw in.

NL Final - Chesterfield Vs Notts County

Exactly what I thought. Very odd. Edit: from Law 12: "... if the offence is playing the ball a second time (with or without the hand/arm) after a restart before it touches another player, the goalkeeper must be sanctioned if the offence stops a promising attack or denies an opponent or the...

    Twitter post/rant

Observation aside, what would you suggest to parks football referee they should do in that situation? Bear in mind that there are probably several players who are not wearing the correct colour socks.

At that level it was an Observer, not a Referee Coach, until this season. I started by saying they did not notify referees until this season. If you're going to be pernickety you need to pay closer attention. Apparently the undershorts were not visible until the player started running and his...

    Twitter post/rant

Until this season one at least one county FA would not tell referees on 7->6 or 6->5 when they were being observed. One referee told me that on a pre-match kit check in the rain the players were gathered under some trees for shelter. The referee had already spotted the observer, he was also...

youth manager "i've never heard of sin bins".

I've been coaching for two years and have never seen a card produced (my kids will be U11 next season). I've been refereeing for 11 years and have never needed to produce a card anywhere below U13. I have witnessed one game as a coach where I would definitely have issued a yellow card to a U10...

Awarded a penalty nobody asked for

This is slightly different because the striker did not get a shot off. However, if you think the shot was affected by by the ankle clip then a penalty is the correct decision.

Level displayed for US-based referees in RC

Yeah that's right, although I'm actually level 5 so I'll be 5(a), not 5(b). See, it's not confusing at all!

Level displayed for US-based referees in RC

We are about to change our level names, and we also have two levels, one for the women's pathway and one for the men's. Next season I will be a level 5(b) (men's) and level 4W (women's).

    Concussion

That is definitely what's best for the player. It's quite a responsibility for the referee, particularly a young ref dealing with an adult coach.

    Concussion

So what happens if a referee thinks he sees symptoms of a concussion but the coach disagrees? Can the referee insist that the player is removed?

    Concussion

In grassroots football the likelyhood is that nobody present is qualified to make a judgement. (Although there's a team called London Hospital Old Boys who play in my league and every player is a doctor.) Given the stakes I think if there's any doubt the player should not play on. Why take the...

    Concussion

I was wondering the same thing. I don't think it's a good idea to place the decision in the hands of the referee. I had a clash of heads in my game last week, the guy was down for several minutes. He finally announced he was ok to continue. I said to the coach there's only 3 minutes left till...

    offside offence - interfering

I don't think I've ever seen somebody shield the ball without using their torso. I mean, it's impossible. What a silly rule.

    offside offence - interfering

How do you hold a player off without using your body?

Advice for young referees on cup finals in both county and league.

Assuming we are talking about youth referees, per the OP, unless they also supply the suits and boots I think this is very silly. To answer the original question really the most important thing is to get there early so you have loads of time and there is no panic. There is nothing worse than...

You giving a second yellow for this?

If you'd read the comments you'd know it was actually 'decent' (or 'descent').
