    Level 4 fitness test

Booked mine in for Sunday 12th June. I'm currently in Houston, so went for a training run yesterday evening in the sort of temperature and humidity that I will never experience in UK, so perhaps not a great way to train but nonetheless getting some more miles in the legs.

    In or Out?

I consider myself a very intelligent person. MBA, degree, professional qualification, etc. I am voting leave, not because I am so stupid to fall for the propaganda, but because I have formed my own opinion, seen the political changes that have occurred and assessed the changes that I believe...

    Level 4 fitness test

Don't take the test until you're ready. There are multiple dates, do a later one and train for it.

    Considering retiring at 20

You are taking this all way too seriously. It should be about you enjoying it and just letting things happen. As @GraemeS says, I think all of us have a moment of reflection at the end of the season, I know I do and right now I want to do anything other than referee. It's a hobby and not a...

I use a pseudonym so that I never have these kinds of issues when I post details on this forum. No other reason.

    Promotion 2016-17

Everyone in England will be a Level 5 from 2017/18 season according to the FAs publication earlier this week. Still in consultation mode, but the intent was clear...promotion to L4 is based on a minimum number of matches/experience criteria. Personally, want to progress as high as I can...

Average Mark for Promotion to Level 4

It could be gleaming in general but if you didn't stand out on Match Control or Application of Law, you'll not score particularly high. Some assessors will praise you to high heaven on fitness, teamwork, etc. but these don't carry a lot of weight unfortunately. 74 is an OK mark by the way, so...

Average Mark for Promotion to Level 4

The minimum is 73, but it appears that this is no longer sufficient to get past the nomination stage (at least down my way). I averaged 76 from my 5 assessments, with none below 73, which was sufficient to get me through. One of my colleagues that didn't make it averaged 74 (he had one...

    Level 4 Candidates

As a matter of interest, is there any formal communication or list of those that have dropped off the L4 list? I doubt it of course, just wanted to know if any of the guys I have lined for in the past few years are still there or not.

    Level 4 Candidates

I am genuinely surprised that only 9 of the 12 Essex FA boys got through. Must be the first season for a long time that has happened, the expectation from our RDO was that Essex normally get all of the candidates through. One of the guys that missed out is a good friend of mine and I don't...

    Level 4 Candidates

Well done @Darius (and everyone else who gets it). Got my email at 14:42, did a little fist pump and carried on as normal (after replying with my acceptance of course).:)

    Thoughts of walking away

Do less games, enjoy it more. That worked for me when I gave up Sundays a few years ago. I still get the occasional feeling of not enjoying it or feeling like I should get my Saturdays back, but I alleviate this by just taking a weekend off every now and then, plus I travelled a bit with work...

    End of season

Last game of the season coming this Saturday, and I can't wait. I always fall out of love with refereeing at this time of year, I'd like some Saturday's off, and of course summer is cricket time.

    4-3 Promotion List

Well we should never judge a referee by one performance - the guy I know on there was absolutely dire in the FA appointment I assisted earlier this season. We had to escort him of the pitch at the end as both benches wanted a piece.. Clearly he was better than that one game showed, so well...

    may have juuuuuust been onside...

Yeah, the covered this ad infinitum last night on TV, but no one mentioned the two obvious things for me: 1) the lino and the ref are mic'd up and who scored could be very quickly resolved 2) regardless of this, even if there was a suggestion of offside isn't it safer just to put the flag up...

This is why a referee should contact the home manager....

You would always make contact with the home club and give them the benefit of the doubt - after all, email addresses or mobile numbers (for text messages) can easily get mistyped and the original sender may never know. If no response is received I would CALL the referee secretary and ask him to...

    Open Age Over officious CAR

Dick measuring is all very well, but both parties are not exactly behaving in a professional manner. Poor from the assessor in particular to get involved.

Debate: Is too much emphasis placed on referee 'levels'?

I've voted No, as there is no alternative. Everyone can progress through the county system (currently to L5) of their own volition, so the emphasis on Levels is more of an incentive. Once you get to L4 and above, this is the only method of allocating referees to the right level of football...

Moving from youth to adult football

Quite different, mostly in physicality but also in aggression, dissent, etc. but not always so before you get into it, the advice from me would be to go and watch a local OA game so you get an idea of what to expect. its a game of football in the end, but you will need to transition from...

    Apparently .....

Not quite Charlie - I take your point and in your scenario that is a clear red, but the referee should apply his own tolerance so that it is consistent throughout the game. As an (extreme) example, one my NARs a few weeks back flagged me over for a player who had told him something so innocuous...
