    Another confused player

Agreed with Russell. Unless the player has received warnings regarding his conduct, I'd just be telling him to shut up and improve his own play before criticising mine. Also, if you watch Prem League, the ref always blows for the offside and never just plays on from the keepers hands. Simple...

Was I right too to abandon

Endangering safety is a send off. Assume you felt it was reckless and could have been dangerous, but felt a caution was correct? If so, fine. He'd be off in one of my games. Right course of action, hope they throw the book at him. Yes, correct to abandon and I hope you are OK, no matter how...

    Lost a couple of marks

One of the big changes I have found, from working with L3s and from being an L4 myself, is the new level of being a proper hard case on the pitch and not taking any sh1t. Seen it a few times and it really works.

    Getting a re crb/dbs

I have never seen or heard that or had to sign anything to that effect. My last "CRB" or whatever it's called, was last year and I was put down as a volunteer. That is the instruction from Essex CFA. Essex CFA will ask you to contribute £10 and should pay the rest (if any). If you don't have...

Eeek, I have been given my first middle with NAR

That's never going to end well, considering some of the clowns I've had as AR in the last few years. One last year gave offside direct from a goal kick.

    Catch 22 97th minute

Ryan, very simply do not allow CARs to give you anything other than ball in/out of play and offside. My process for CARs would be to talk to both lino's in front of the captains before the toss, and just briefly tell them their ONLY job is ball in/out of play and offside, against which you will...

Open Age Will they ever learn?

At that level I don't think there is a need to play such "accurate" added time, especially if the game is getting tasty. Stoppages or not, if it's getting a bit heated just play 2 or 3 minutes and get yourself out of there.

    Ouch achilles

That was the bit I had forgotten! I knew there was something - first recommendation would be for heel pads which raise the heel slightly and provide much greater shock absorption. The hard ground plays havoc as football boots are not normally the most comfy or padded in the heel area

    Ouch achilles

Significant calf stretching is needed, as Brian says stair raises will give a full movement of the tendon and linked muscles. Look up stretching techniques such as standing stretches for both upper and lower calf. Usually such injuries are related to overuse, but if it continues after rest and...

    Help needed for refereeing research

Hi Dr.Ben, From my (years of) experience, the banter in "Banter, bitching and smelly toilets" is ok, referees that know each other would often have such discussions, but this seems very much at odds with the excruciating quote in "Polite smiles and thank you's.." where the referee sees fit to...

    Cleaning boots time!

Just ignore the "Do not clean boots in the shower" sign and away you go.

    Nike team kits 2016/17

All easily resolved by allowing the referee to wear a non-black shirt. I know the clubs should know better, but The FA seem to be the last bastion of tradition purely for the sake of it. Even the PL and FL in England allow non-black referee shirts. When clubs have an all navy blue strip, it is...

    NPD AND FAMOA no

No idea what an NPD number is, but your FAMOA number is the same as your FAN, which should be on your certificate. Ask your County RDO if you need help. God I hate using initialisms all the time

    Pre Season 2016/17

Turned down a few friendly games already, have closed every weekend in August on MOAS (and some midweek dates), so I expect my first game will be a Tuesday night job 2nd week of August, before I start properly in September. I am ready to go, fitness not an issue and have really worked on my...

    Annoying Injury!

And bear in mind it might not even be an issue with the calf at all, as your physio will explain when he looks at your posture and hip/leg strength. Hope it's all ok.

    FA Cup 2016-17

Cricket season at the moment, so closed off Sat 6th, 13th and 20th on MOAS

Anybody else not looking forward to the start of the season?

I would say don't come back until you are ready, nothing stopping you from starting your season in September or even later. I'm not currently looking forward to the new season, but I have closed all of my dates until late August so that I should be energised. Once all of the matches are on TV...

    Next Manager Of England

Look at it another way - constantly the press and 'experts' bemoan how the England manager is never able to get the best out of the players and never able to win matches when it matters. Surely in this scenario Allardyce is actually a good choice, as he isn't trying to get them to play more...

    Promotion

I thought you had to be Level X on 1st March to be eligible for promotion to the next level. In other words, the OP couldn't apply for L6 at this time???

    Level 4 fitness test

Done mine today, nice and straightforward. A few guys were 10 to 20m short and will have to go again, but the other 40 or so who were there all passed. I wasted a load of effort doing 2900m, still struggle getting the pace right, but all done for the year anyway.
