When I first arrived in France I was surprised! All the players use of French equivalent of "Leave It", and there is never a complaint. I know it was one of the main complaints from players in England, so I was taken aback.

Sounds as if that is totally accidental and his hands would have been in a natural position (stability) so no, but the claims would have been pretty vociferous!

Having refereed in France now for almost 10 years, I would be criticised if I had not given that. In England I may not give it. How the laws are interpreted in different countries is very interesting.

My thoughts exactly. There was a replay shot from behind the goal, which shows both players on the floor, and then you see Clatts put the whistle to his mouth (and blows it, I assume). With the players on the ground it is difficult to think an advantage might accrue. As has already been said...

The language mostly! Most senior games kick off 3.30pm (3pm in winter) on Sundays. Youth games are played at the same times on a Saturday. This season the official match record is being done on a tablette, which means less writing in reports, as just have to give details of red cards in reports...
