    LIV v MCI

Graham Scott has been talking about that today, and I tend to agree that would be the right outcome for football here. There was clearly going to be a goal, absolutely zero debate about that, so the penalty goal becomes a thing. And City would be given the choice of a goal and no red card or a...

    LIV v MCI

Very different incidents. Szoboszlai got a huge grab on Haaland and completely impacted his momentum. Tripper grabbed Lewis-Potter's shirt with very little force and he then flung himself to the ground.

    LIV v MCI

As a football fan I'd prefer the goal to stand and Szoboslai to stay on, but as a referee I can see that he has to disallow it and send him off. It is a very clear foul by Haaland, difficult to ignore that really.

    LIV v MCI

Yes, but he only scored because Haaland fouled Szoboslai, without that foul he would probably have stopped the ball from crossing the line.

Tamworth Vs Hartlepool - Feint in the run up

That's a bad decision for any referee to make, for a level 1 it is an absolute howler

    Newcastle v Brentford

Haven’t seen it as watching the rugby, but for the second one if the handling was due to the arm being in an unsupportable position it can only be a yellow card. Would only be red if a deliberate handball, I.e. saw the ball and deliberately moved the hand towards it.

    Grimsby penalty

The problem with that is you are accusing them of cheating, I’d want to be 100% it was simulation before I do that.

    IberCup Cascais 2026

Still seems to be a bit tight expecting you to survive 5 days refereeing on hand luggage. Also surprised it’s your CFA organising as I thought Referee Abroad had exclusive rights on referee allocations for that tournament.

    The new Nike Kit 26-30

Or even worse a stuck zip and a referee looking like he’s desperately scratching his derrière.

Why is this a foul - Arsenal vs Man united - Maguire vs Jesus

Footballers are taught from the age of 6 to feel contact and fall over. It has been going on for far too long for it to get fixed. Referees are coached to protect themselves by giving safe defensive free kicks. I reckon had this happened by the corner flag it wouldn’t have been given but on...

    Always getting grief

Spot on. I had a lot of dissent cautions when I was starting out and even when I first got to L4. Then as I got more experienced I learnt to manage it better, the main thing being getting on top of it with quiet words at the first sign of any moaning. That's the key thing, don't ignore the...

    Arsenal vs Chelsea

Agree it could have been a penalty for the secondary action, but don't think it merited a VAR intervention.

    Tottenham v Man City

He 100% played advantage, and went back to talk to speak to Zubimendi a long time later when the ball eventually went out. It was textbook SPA, there was nothing even vaguely reckless about it, it only looked dodgy because Cucurella did what Cucurella does and flung himself to the floor at a...

    IberCup Cascais 2026

No chance I would say. Unless there are laundry facilities you are going to need one kit per day, and even with laundry you are going to need multiple colours of shirts (recommend yellow, blue and green). Then any undergarments you may need, boots, flags, box of tricks, any clothes you need...

    Open Age A difficult weekend

There are two obvious problems with that approach, the first being that they aren't going to get better if they aren't penalised for it. Secondly, in my experience of womens football they won't be best impressed if they new they were being refereed differently because of their gender.

    PSG v Newcastle

I agree, I can't understand why his arm made the movement that it did, he basically swats the ball away. Granted it looks worse in slow motion, but as soon as I saw it I was 100% sure it would be a penalty, and I'm reasonably confident it would also be in the EPL.

    2026 Potential Law Changes

To use a real life example of where game management, or a lack of it, caused a huge problem, I observed on a 5 to 4 promotion where the referee had done as well as he could do in a game that was almost a cricket score. Well into time added on, 8 minutes from memory, one of the winning team...

    celtic red card

Pretty sure they can only appeal the final outcome as that is what the player is suspended for. They are in effect appealing the suspension not the decision.

    City v Wolves

You are bringing up an incident involving a referee that retired 9 years ago. Seriously? 😂

    2026 Potential Law Changes

This is nothing new, and certainly pre-dates CORE. I can remember when coming through promotion nearly 20 years ago to "find a foul", especially when a player was trying to shield it near the corner flag. And my L3 coach, an ex-Premier League official, told me at half time to give every close...
