Goal scored directly from deflection off referee?

That was my first thought as well. Don't think there's ever a scenario of active play when you need to be inside the 6.

Goal scored directly from deflection off referee?

Ahh, this video may be from when the referee was considered part of the field? That would make sense.

Goal scored directly from deflection off referee?

Play should have been restarted with a drop ball for the defending team / defending goalkeeper, right?

Commenting on great moments as they happen

@OnlyUseMeWhistle Makes total sense to approach varying levels differently. Thanks! @one Definitely with you on this. When players know you know what just happened was a wow moment, they'll appreciate you for it. And I like the, "that was just a great play" convo. Again, players know sometimes...

Commenting on great moments as they happen

Just wanted to hear some opinions about what everybody's thought are on running commentary when you see something outstanding happen while refereeing. This could be a great through ball, a huge save or a fantastic passage of play. You know the moments. When you see them, your brain just says...

    Refereeing/Fitness over the summer

@george.g Thanks for posting! I'm similarly finishing up my first season and have a big focus on fitness moving forward. I've had ACL reconstructions in both my knees after a competitive soccer career and have had my share of lower back problems. So I'm coming at fitness from the POV of: slow...

    IFAB double foul

Just trying to catch up on my abbreviations and found this thread: https://refchat.co.uk/threads/abbreviations.12786/ Thanks, @lincs22! 👊🏽

    Wolves v Crystal Palace

It's about the same as the Casemiro tackle earlier this year so I wouldn't have been surprised to see a red. One difference between the two challenges though is that Casemiro makes contact with a planted leg while Johnstone makes contact with a leg that's in the air. Obviously the former has...

    LUT vs MID

I don't see any contact, FWIW. Maybe very little but not enough for a penalty here since the attacker was already falling over when this alleged contact occurred! Attacker just seemed off balance, IMO. He just came in hot and fell over because he didn't have his feet under him. Sure, he didn't...

Red card for stopping a goal with your hand but only a yellow for scoring one?

Quoting this article: Being a referee is hard enough without blatant cheating by players I guess there are 2 discussion points here... Does it make sense to punish purposefully stopping a goal with your hand a red and purposefully scoring a goal with your hand a yellow? Does the acting after...

Assisting the Center Referee on Calls

Really good point here. Experienced referees have told me as AR to take more or less control depending on their positioning. If they have great positioning and good proximity to a play, it's usually best to leave it to them unless it's something really obvious or something you think you can...

Assisting the Center Referee on Calls

Tell me about it. That's mostly the culture I've experienced as a rookie referee here in the US. Sometimes I wish folks I work with would take it a bit more seriously!

Dropped ball and the end of the half.

Sometimes when I work back-to-back-to-back games, I blow a little early in these situations because I don't want later kickoff times to be pushed back. But in general, I think this is good advice. Thanks!

    Quick restart during injury timeout?

100%. I do this with drop balls so can't imagine not doing it for an injury timeout.

Dropped ball and the end of the half.

    Same principles apply! :)
