    A&H Notebook

I have been wondering for a while where I can find a certain notebook. It’s from A&H which have obviously closed down. It’s quite a long notebook. It is a bit longer than most normal notebooks and I’ve worked with a couple of referees who have had it recently and I want to get my hands on one...

    Arsenal Vs Brighton

That’s not a good look for the officials. If it wasn’t bad enough before that!

    Arsenal Vs Brighton

I heard the commentators say that and I looked at Madley and it looked like he was waving him down!

Macron Referee Shirt - Anyone using ?

I agree. I also find the shorts back pockets and the shirt breast pockets Velcro has too much stick. I don’t wear the shorts anymore as I couldn’t get my notebook out of my back pocket. And the shirt pockets are quite difficult.

    7-6 or 4W-3W promotion

It’s a huge difference! And you can see when the reports come back. If I compared my 4W-3W to 7-6 observation reports, they are quite different.

    7-6 or 4W-3W promotion

That’s what I thought. It sounded like in the observation he contradicted himself a bit by saying I should have taken the stepped approach throughout the game (even though it was a very pleasant game to referee and there wasn’t much in it) and then also said I should have cautioned this specific...

    7-6 or 4W-3W promotion

I agree with this. I did terrible on a womens observation earlier this season. But I had a 7-6 observation a few weeks ago and the observer in the mens game said I was one of, if not the best referee he had seen at that level. But the womens 4W-3W I struggled with a lot and did poor on an...

    7-6 or 4W-3W promotion

Ah! I didn’t know. I thought you could go to doing middles at 3W! Apologies.

    7-6 or 4W-3W promotion

I’m trying both 7-6 and 4W-3W this year. Although, I don’t think I’ll get my 3W as I haven’t had enough observations and games in the woman's game. From my understanding, if you get, let’s say, level 5, you can go into the woman's pathway straight away as a 3W.

    Pre match chat with teams

Not very many referees talk to the teams as a whole if that’s what you mean? The jewellery thing is split. Some refs line everyone up and check it- some take a look around in the warm up to spot if there is any jewellery and some may just ask the managers to make sure no one has any on if...

    Cup Final - Match Officials

I had some good advice from a level 3 I know regarding 4th officials. It was quite simple. He said to pick your battles as a 4th official. I think that’s simple but is also quite effective.

    Training for Level 5

When I run, I listen to music. But I’ve always liked running so it’s not really been an issue for me.

    Guernsey

I live down in the south and know a fair few level 3’s and 4’s who have made the trip over to guernsey. From what I’ve been told- 5am you have to leave the house. Around 8am at the airport. You get to guernsey around 11am. For a 3pm ko. Sounds awful 😂😂

You giving a second yellow for this?

    Shouldn’t that be a straight red? 😨

    Greetings from Portugal

😂😂😂 I’ve heard what I think are plenty of swear words. They are all very passionate over here. The parents, that is. The players too but some people from the tournament organising team have described some of the teams as having ‘ultras’ !!!!

    Greetings from Portugal

I find running the line over here quite fun as when all the parents shout at you- you don’t understand what they are saying. So it’s easier to ignore 😁

    Half yellow card?

Thanks all. It did look a bit bizzare. He pulled the card half way out of his pocket and pointed at someone in the home dugout. Then went and spoke with them for about 10 seconds. I had just never really seen it before.

    Half yellow card?

I was watching an isthmian game last Saturday and the home dugout were getting a little noisy. Nothing bad. The referee stopped play when the ball was out and walked over and half took his yellow card out of his pocket. He did it and pointed at it. Basically as if to ‘threaten’ them with a...

Sending off situations: How common are they?

I have done 72 middles this year. 10 red cards. A mix of second yellows and straight reds. I had 3 straight reds in one game (a school game, year 10’s!!!!) and then a straight red in a mens game 4 days later! And then once since then.
