Out of interest, what is the thinking behind this change allowing officials to show their personality? How will this do that?

    Back to suits?!

You could have referred turn up in a 3 piece suit and still look scruffy. It doesn’t matter what you tell people to wear, those who take pride in their appearance will look smart. Those who don’t care, won’t care, regardless of suit, tracksuit, birthday suit or shorts

    Back to suits?!

Are the same supply league ensuring all clubs turn up in suit/shirt and pants? Leagues have far bigger fish to fry than looking at how referees arrive and leave.

    Back to suits?!

Shirt and trousers is basically the same thing as suit and tie. Due to the state of some venues, you’ll potentially get mud on your pants. In a tracksuit, no bother, comes off easily. In suit pants, potentially means a dry cleaning bill. Whereas players are turning up in whatever they like. A...

Henry also did it vs Chelsea. Fairly infamous incident in La Liga with Real Madrid doing it as well. It’s certainly not an everyday thing, but to say no senior referee allows it just isn’t true. But extremely rare, I’ll agree with you there.

Henry did it vs Villa. Giggs did it in a CL game. My point is, you said no senior referee would allow it to happen, almost to stop the conversation around @Kent Ref discussion.

Of course they could allow a quick one. We’ve had multiple discussions around that over the years. You’ve even said yourself you would allow them if they were taken so quickly you hadn’t had a chance to get there.

Take the assumption that it was a ceremonial free kick out of the equation…….

    Captain's Only

This is another case of already having the tools, but the higher echelons failing to use them. It’ll end up like most changes; they’ll enforce it at higher level for a few weeks, only to forget all about it. We’ll then get people justifying why it wasn’t used, even though it’ll be clear as day...

    Tight calf muscles - help!

I’ve suffered with it many times. Normally caused by my Achilles, which are a result of a slightly twisted pelvis. Have you been doing Achilles stretches? If not, I’d highly recommend this along with fluids. Dehydration can cause issues with Achilles. Acupuncture was also great for me

    Back to suits?!

I completely agree people should look neat and tidy in general, but it’s a 2 way street. Clubs love moaning about this kind of stuff, but there’s an awful lot of in-house stuff they need to sort themselves……..

    Back to suits?!

There is a massive difference in facilities at L4. Some are played at actual stadiums, whereas others are played at a gym, in which officials get changed with gym-goers. We also have a supply league ground these ways behind a pub. To get to the pitch and ‘changing room’ you literally have to...

Outfield player wearing a Trilby - Charity Match

I’m pretty sure he still had a decent head of hair. His trilby is basically his gimmick

Outfield player wearing a Trilby - Charity Match

This is why I was always very wary taking on charity’s games and even friendlies. There is all too often an expectation that rules can be bent and/or relaxed. You’re potentially on a hiding to nothing.

    Dissent threshold

So So I wouldn’t absolutely live to the rule of if it’s only between you and the player, it cannot be a sin bin. But it’s a good starting ground

    Dissent threshold

First thing I would add here, is that you need to get out of that mindset. That’s the same mindset of ‘it’s 3-0, I can let it slide’. Next thing you know, it’s gone to sh1ts. I completely get where you’re coming from, as I had that mindset for a long time. But it’ll do more harm than good. Said...
