That's an extremely harsh (in fact, I would say incorrect) red card to give. The caution for the berating was fine; the comment about the payment seems like a one-off and can be dealt with by reminding him that the second yellow will likely come much quicker than the first did at this point.

Why would you book for that? Why not just say "It's still a foul inside the penalty area and so it's still a penalty kick. However, had he been going towards goal, you may have been sent off for DOGSO -- maybe that's what you're thinking of."

I don't like this whole "pre-match talk with the players" thing. They should already know what is expected and the chances of them listening to me are pretty slim.

IMO the ten minute chunk thing is the antithesis to consistent refereeing. I will concede that sometimes you have to be a bit more "on top of things" in the first ten to fifteen minutes of the match but aside from that, you should be consistent the whole match. Nothing is more infuriating than...
