Players and management moaning at referee when he is following new offside law procedures.

In your diagram I don’t see where the “putting pressure on a defender” part of my post applies, which is critical to my example IMO? If an offside player is chasing a ball with no defenders nearby alongside an ‘onside’ team mate then you wait to see which one touches the ball, likewise if they...

Players and management moaning at referee when he is following new offside law procedures.

There is a difference between a player in an offside positioning standing still/walking back and clearly not involved to one chasing the ball and putting pressure on a defender but not intending on touching the ball (though how you would prove they don’t intend that I do not know). In the latter...

A lighter thread - Your favourite decisions?

All of mine have come when acting as AR - I think the sense of teamwork just makes the decision feel much better. The best is probably a few years ago, striker running through and in the penalty area my side. Defender slides and catches his ankle so clear foul. Referee has been caught behind...

How to restart play after offside?

You don’t blow the whistle and raise your arm straight up, you’d only raise your arm when you’re ready for the kick to be taken and you’re in position. Otherwise you’d then be moving around with your arm in the air before being ready for the kick to be taken, which looks stupid

    Indirect free kick taken quickly

Not necessarily true, you can lower your arm when it’s clear that a goal isn’t going to be scored so if an IFK from offside is going out to the side then I’ll lower my arm when the ball is still in the air

Open Age This will be your last game ref

If that’s what you’ve taken away from my post then the issue lies with your interpretation and not my actions :)

Open Age This will be your last game ref

I was observed in today’s game, the only thing I did differently was ‘manage’ the substitutions properly instead of letting the player come on before the other player had gone off and taking his name somewhere in the middle of the field of play. Everything else was the same and the debrief was...

    Latest Kit

Thanks, that’s frustrating that A&H nor the FA Referee store have my size in stock edit - found it on the RA shop

    Latest Kit

Hi I’ve decided to get back into refereeing much more frequently this coming season (as opposed to once every 4-6 weeks) and I’m looking to get a new kit. Is the Nike 18 still the latest or is there going to be a new one released that’s worth waiting for? Cheers

Re-take or IDFK the other way

Sounds like in this situation the new law "spirit of the game" gives you a legitimate purpose to play on or retake lol

Open Age Friendly end of Match mass confrontation

Each pre-season I wonder whether I've made the right decision by not agreeing to referee friendly matches and whether the lack of warm up would affect me starting the season well.. Each year I repeatedly hear of "friendlies" that are far from and remember why I stopped doing them in the first...

    Season not quite over...........

Surely that would class as next season starting early rather than an extension of this one?!

    Tournament first for me.............

A few years ago at a mini soccer tournament I sent off two U8s for fighting - full on punches and kicks. Moans from the sidelines about can't send them off at that age, why not just substitute them etc. but as they both went off crying I am sure that they will remember that for a lot longer than...

Never given one of those before...

If the ball is bouncing through to the goalkeeper from a wayward pass by the opposition and it is at chest height if the goalkeeper deliberately stops the ball with his hands (instead of chesting it or otherwise controlling it with any other part of his body but his hands) then allows the ball...

    Persistent infringement

But from next season you can utilise the Spirit of the Game and retake them without feeling guilty about it ;)

Odd things you find on a football pitch - Part One

Had to delay kick off once because of a drunken guy stumbling across the pitch shouting and ranting. One of the side's were in black and white stripes and the drunk was chanting some stuff about Newcastle. One of the player's told me to get rid of him and I told him that I wasn't having anything...

Still can't find any games (need 5 to qualify)

I think you'll have better luck in September

    Glasses/Contact Lenses...

I wear daily disposable lenses for refereeing. I've wore glasses on a handful of occasions and there's the obvious dissent regarding Specsavers but it also affects your peripheral vision so I wouldn't recommend them

    Vardy's dive

I don't know how anyone can justify that the penalty incident where Huth was fouled wasn't a penalty but then in the same breath can say that West Ham's penalty was correct? Schlupp's was also not a penalty, imo. I thought Moss was so inconsistent within the 90 minutes that it was embarrassing...

    Junior/Youth U18 cup final

Of course it does. It states "language or gestures" and language does not just mean words; we communicate to one another using tone of our voice etc. gestures also does not just mean flicking the V's or doing a five knuckle shuffle at someone
