    Red card?

@Hoosier Ref I disagree with your opinion that the referee had a good angle of view of this incident; he was too deep toward the centre line and should have been about six to seven yards further upfield and, likewise, should have been about three to four yards closer to the touchline. This is...

    OFINABUS?

Whether I have a wife or not is inconsequential. The comment is, in and of itself, personal and offensive.

    Bournemouth spit their dummy out

Check out the pundits on ESPNFC. They got this one 100% right--except, of course, for the fat one who has never played.

    OFINABUS?

By the same logic, nothing would really be personal unless the player knew the referee. Now OFFINABUS is only going to apply to either your friends and acquaintances from off the pitch, or it is just going to be for dissent that crosses the line. That's silly. The comment is personal: it is...

Made a mess of 3 things within about 30 seconds!

Experience tends to breed out these kinds of errors because, more often than not, they are errors due to panic. Once you've seen the same old thing over and over again, it will become much easier to deal with it calmly. Good on you for reflecting on your errors and trying to grow and good luck...

    OFINABUS?

You don't disrespect my wife and stay on the pitch. This is personal and offensive. Clear OFFINABUS for me.

    Who supplies the flags?

I cannot figure out how this thread has nearly 100 replies. The answer is obviously: don't be a nonce and bring your flags to every match.

Made a mess of 3 things within about 30 seconds!

So there is a lot here, and I bet that it was overwhelming while you were out there and all eyes (eventually) fell on you. That's our life as referees and the more it happens, the better you will be at handling these situations. There are two major aspects to dealing with situations like this...

    Wish me luck

Thanks everyone. I'm looking forward to it, but it has cut my off-season short. I have to start training again for the fitness test.

Your most embarrassing moments as a referee / AR

I was invited to take part in a youth tournament for provincial teams (best players from each province form a team, much like the way international teams work). I was assigned to referee the marquee match on the first day: Quebec vs. Alberta (two of the top 3 teams in Canada). I was setting the...

    Osasuna vs Real Madrid

It is a caution. The player makes contact with his opponent's foot using his thigh. The speed of the challenge is higher than necessary, but the player is in control of his action through the whole tackle. Therefore, the player is putting the opponent in a dangerous position, but does not meet...

    Wish me luck

I have just been told that I have been nominated for promotion to what is the Canadian equivalent of Level 2a in England. It involves an online test, a week-long course in another province, assessments over the course of the year, and two fitness tests. If I am successful in reaching the level...

Open Age Referee'd a game whilst ill today, just so happened to be assessed.

I hear a couple of beer helps a heap. Even if it doesn't cure your illness, you may feel it less after enough!

    Identifying dissent

The best suggestions I've seen so far are to move away from the area, to appropriately and publicly deal with the first instance of dissent-like behaviour, and to have selective hearing as you go through the game.

    Who supplies the flags?

I always bring flags, whether I am referee or assistant. I've never seen a club bring flags.
