If the ball touches the ground before entering, the throw-in is retaken by the same team from the same position.

A different question but this chat made me think....have any of you even had a time wasting situation where the thrower is throwing the ball up the line and it is not coming into the field of play so the throw needs to be retaken multiple times? I've never seen two bad throws in a row like this...

    Stopping “quick freekicks””

So what if the defender walks up to the ball and stands right in front of the ball expecting the ref to tell him to back away or the attacker to ask for 10 and the attacker walks up and kicks the ball basically right at him. YC? What if the defender is walking/jogging up to the ball and, as the...

    Legal Cleats

A parent asked me if baseball cleats are allowed in soccer. I didn't know. The Laws don't seem to give answers on what is and isn't allowed, just as long as they aren't dangerous. I googled it and got lots of hits that baseball cleats aren't allowed in soccer. Lacrosse cleats aren't allowed in...

    IFAB Q and A

IFAB responded on Twitter when asked about which Law this violated. This was the response... As the Laws cannot list every single possible offence, referees must act within the 'spirit' of the Law (Law 5 and introduction to the Laws of the Game). The attacker has clearly gained an unfair...

Referee Using Foul Language at a Youth Player

CR=Center Referee. The Center Referee was like a 40 year old man. These were pre season scrimmages in the boy's "arguably" 2nd highest league in the US. The top league is considered to be the MLS Next youth league. So this was not just a dad off the street corner refereeing this game.

Referee Using Foul Language at a Youth Player

So a U16 match...The players are complaining about fouls being called alot, etc to the CR and the CR is engaging with them quite a bit and then he tells one of the players "Just shut the F--- up punk." If you were AR, would you say anything to him at halftime or after the game? Would you say...

    Coin Toss - YOUTH Games

I've NEVER (not even a U5 rec game) seen teams NOT switch sides at half time. For the coin toss, I like to be clearer than most because I find kids to be confused when a referee just says...."Side or Ball" or even "Pick an end". The kids are always like "what?" Are the kids assumed to know that...

    All makes sense. Thanks!

    Circumventing the Law

An IDFK is awarded if a player... initiates a deliberate trick for the ball to be passed (including from a free kick or goal kick) to the goalkeeper with the head, chest, knee etc. to circumvent the Law, whether or not the goalkeeper touches the ball with the hands; the goalkeeper is penalised...

Help Understanding Send offs before Game Starts

Thanks. But this is throwing me off. This is from the end of Law 3. This is saying not RC should be shown. ??? Before the team lists have been submitted, a player spits at an opponent in the pre-match warm-up on the field of play. If it is noticed by the match officials, what is the correct...

Thanks. Before KO, do you physically show the RC or how would you handle that?

Help Understanding Send offs before Game Starts

Law 3 states the following: A player who is sent off: before submission of the team list cannot be named on the team list in any capacity after being named on the team list and before kick-off may be replaced by a named substitute, who cannot be replaced; the number of substitutions the team...

    Whistle hand

Not to derail this thread but reading all the posts made me think to ask this question...How do you feel about very verbal refs with which directions throw ins are going....for example, the ball goes out. Do you just signal or do you often signal and say..."Off white, blue throw" or something...

    Standing on the ball

Thank you. I understand the LOTG don't address this. I'm always looking for practical tips like most of you provide here. I always struggle with kids standing on the ball, so I was just trying to dig a little deeper into One's response. Thanks again.

    Standing on the ball

Yes, But @one stated that "once the ball is placed", the defenders need to start backing away. I'm wondering what he meant by that. The referee doesn't place the ball; otherwise, it would be ceremonial and that's not what we are talking about here. So I'm wondering what he considers to be the...

    Standing on the ball

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I only bolded what I was asking about. Can you expand on the need for the "ball to be placed"? Do you mean, once the attacking player walks up to the ball for instance? Does that count as "being placed"?

Can you expand on this? I've never heard anyone add this little detail.
