    Penalty Kick Encroachment

I know it's in there somewhere but I just read Law 14 like 10 times. I don't see where it defines encroachment on a PK. Any help where it lays this out?

    Penalty shootouts

I'll have to share my first experience with a penalty shootout. I was brand new and center for a young boys (U12s I think because it was small-sided) semi final that needed a winner. It went to PKs. I used Xs and Os and awarded the game to the "Red" team after the 4th round. I explained that I...

    SPA and Advantage

So yes, it was very blatant but not reckless...I was also thinking an Unspecified USB but I wasn't sure since he did yell advantage and an advantage occurred. Thanks.

    SPA and Advantage

So in my son's U17 match, a kid deliberately pulls on the shirt of an attacker to try to stop the attack but the attacker shakes him off. The referee yells advantage. The same defender catches up to him a second later and again tugs on his shirt. The attacker shakes him off. Again, the referee...

    Can anyone expand on this?

Yes, not every club does it though. Fortunately, the two neighboring clubs where I live pays for linos at U9, U10, U11, and U12. And they pay like $20/game for 25 minute halves. So not bad for a 13 year old. Great environment to learn the ropes.

    Can anyone expand on this?

Luckily for me (and my kids), two nearby clubs pay for 3-man crews for U9, U10, U11, and U12 small sided games. After my kids became certified at age 13, they learned and gained experience by being assistant referees for U9 and U10 recreational league games where I or a friend was the center...

Jewellery - when did it change?

So one of my recent games, a girl of Indian decent had a "cloth" bracelet on. I of course told her to remove it but, they (her and her coach) seemed prepared for that and quickly told me that it was "religious". I was like...ah, ****. I don't want to get into a religious issue and I don't know...

Jewellery - when did it change?

I've seen an opponent's find slide under a cloth bracelet before. Someone told me that they've seen it too and the girl's finger nail got ripped off.

Jewellery - when did it change?

If a player showed up with their fingers taped but no rings are visible, would you check closer? What are your thoughts on wrist tape? Do you try to determine if there are any bracelets underneath? Lots of kids here in the US like to wear these cloth bracelets. They can easily be taped over and...

Managing "Fights" for the Ball After a Goal

There is nothing special about this particular situation but it got me thinking...I was watching a match last night and one team tied it up late, and as you've probably seen dozens of times, the scorer sprinted into the goal to grab the ball just as the GK was picking it up and then teammates...

    "Snap him!"

Pardon my US ignorance, but what does "SNAP HIM!" mean? Thanks

    Charge challenge for ball?

What is an example or examples of someone challenging for the ball that is not considered "attempting to play the ball"? What are scenarios that they are trying to NOT make red cards here? Thanks

    Advantage on DOGSO

The correct restart is unclear to me...? As the Law states, "if the player plays the ball or challenges/interferes with an opponent, the referee will stop play, send off the player and restart with an indirect free kick, unless the player committed a more serious offence.". Did the referee stop...

    Advantage on DOGSO

Right after the save, the referee enters the picture and he's pointing at the spot of the foul and looks like he's communicating something. Any thought's on what he's saying there? What you be communicating to the players? Thanks

    whistles

My opinions revolve around the same whistles as yours. I recently got the Dolphin as it was on sale. I use the flip grip with this one. I don't like the design. I often accidently cover the hole on the bottom and I get the very high pitched sound instead of the regular blast so, because I can't...

    When is he offside

So in the case when there is only one player following the ball and it is clear that only he/she can play the ball, do you prefer an early flag or letting it run to the keeper or out for a goal kick or throw in (provided the ball has that much pace). This decision can make a big difference in...

    Goal Kick Questions

From Law 16: From 16.1: The ball is in play when it is kicked and clearly moves From 16.2: If an opponent who is in the penalty area when the goal kick is taken, or enters the penalty area before the ball is in play, touches or challenges for the ball before it is in play, the goal kick is...

    Does offsides reset every touch

I asked a very similar question recently and this was a the response from @JamesL: "If he immediately challenges the defender then that's an offside offence. And the free kick is taken from where they immediately challenged their opponent If it's not immediately challenging then no offside...

    DOGSO/SPA clinic notes

What does this have to do with DOGSO? Thanks. When a potential DOGSO/SPA tackle happens, watch where the ball goes, especially when a defender kicks through the ball. If the ball goes forward and towards goal, it’s likely the attacker got the last touch. If away from goal, it’s likely the...

    Abused as assistant

I certainly agree and, here, where I am in the US, we do not use club ARs at all, so I was just trying to imagine what I would do if one of my certified ARs started coaching the players. I certainly wouldn't think that, because the LOTG don't specifically disallow it, I would allow it. I guess...
