    Replacement GPS Watch

Yeah I do both to be on the safe side. Refsix is great when it’s working, which is most of the time to be fair. The sin bin function is spot on, as are the fitness stats post-game. Not the apps fault, but tonight it absolutely lashed down and my watch wasn’t recognising my touch thanks to the...

    Replacement GPS Watch

Big fan of refsix, but I find it glitches mid-game too frequently for my liking. Once every 5 games (ish) it won’t respond to my press when I try and end a half, or enter a goal for example. Luckily I use a notepad as well as the app and can time the game on my other watch. Anyone else...

Players and management moaning at referee when he is following new offside law procedures.

No I’d advise against that. The law should be applied correctly regardless of the level. You’re making a bigger rod for your back by not applying the law correctly. Don’t worry about whether the players like it or not, if they don’t know the law then that’s their issue. You give the correct...

Players and management moaning at referee when he is following new offside law procedures.

Absolutely. One particular scenario I had was: -a long high ball played forward by red, bounces approx 25 yards away from goal. -2 red players clearly offside, know it and walk back not interested in playing the ball or effecting play. -blue defender runs back, plays bouncing ball, miscontrols...

Players and management moaning at referee when he is following new offside law procedures.

I’ve had more ‘feedback’ on the ‘once the ball has been played by defender, offside is cleared’ law change. It’s caused more issues than the ‘active/not active’ in my experience.

    Fairness/match control Vs the law

In a round about way, home captain essentially selected choice of ends and to stay as it was. I don’t know why he didn’t just say that!

Thanks Russell, I’ve completed the LOTG test...got one question wrong on advantage funnily enough! I may be wrong but I think club marks come into consideration so it’s probably a case of getting through the season then if there’s no physical test.

Got my report back for this weekend (different observer!), and got an above standard on all points and an overall above standard for a challenging match. I’m delighted and hopefully it’ll cancel out last weeks rating- if last weeks isn’t changed. Assuming that’s my last assessment, is it just a...

    Leicester v West Ham

That’s what I was wondering. If advantage is played and the first thing the player does is spray it out of play, it’s just tough luck?

    Leicester v West Ham

Referee has played advantage a couple of times the last few minutes. First one: ball was given away 2 seconds or so into the advantage. Second advantage: Vardy was dispossessed almost straight after advantage was given. Am I wrong in saying both should’ve been brought back as the advantage...

    Difficult match

If you ask if he’s directed the comment at you and he says he didn’t, there’s nothing you can do really. You caution him then it’ll probably escalate things as he’d kick up a fuss about it in the overly dramatic reaction players seem to have these days...had plenty of holding the head in...

Today might be the final game

Sorry to hear that @Kev the ref. Had a bad one myself the beginning of last season (my first full season) and couldn’t remember the last time I’d felt so deflated. Luckily I had the support within my league and indeed this forum. As unpleasant as it was at the time I definitely feel stronger...

    Friendlies

Had two friendlies this summer. First was uneventful to the point of boredom. The second was one of the most demanding games I’ve refereed in terms of player behaviour. Weren’t too many bad challenges but the level of petulance embarrassing. Constantly bickering with each other. Trying to get...

    Fitness = Credibility?

Both really. I often get positive comments from players post-game about keeping up with play, so think it’s appreciated at that level when maybe some referees may not be able to...not that it necessarily means you aren’t capable of being a good referee mind. In relation to needing to be fit...

That’s exactly how I seen it at the time, mate.

    Advantage law- SPA

When I spoken to him following the report to make it clear why I didn’t caution the player, I said I didn’t see it as reckless, only SPA from the attempted trip. He explained because there was a degree of force in the challenge he seen it as reckless. I’m not sure if he thinks there was force...

    Advantage law- SPA

In general a good match for you Eddie, your positioning at set plays, corner kick and throw ins was varied but you always had a clear sight of play and you were in good positions for the 9-5 dropping zones. There were a couple of occasions when you had to avoid the ball because you were a...

    Advantage law- SPA

Yeah that’s something I will admit i got wrong, 100% should’ve made a point of remonstrating the offender. I’m happy to post the text of the report in here, unless that’s considered bad form? No names of course.

Good advice James & @RustyRef, I’ve already been in touch with the observer co-ordinator today around the amount of observations I’ll get this season, so can reply querying the score. It’s interesting that I’m not supposed to have the same observer...I fully expect to get the same guy this...

I’m hoping whoever processes the report notices that too, rusty! I’m not too sure what to do at the moment. Just get on with it and see how it pans out or ask the questions you guys are asking in terms of the grade. As I’ve mentioned, what makes it all the more perplexing is the positive...
