    Messing up an advantage

In your particular case with the ball in the defenders half, I now shout I have seen it and then see if I will play the advantage or call it back. Lets everyone know I have not missed it and stops any premature moaning. On Sunday I blew for an off the ball incident to the defending team at a...

    Players/managers/coaches dissent

I am far too tolerant and try and calm them down, loud rebukes, involve the captain - all the classic steps. Late in the second half when the dissent is continuing and distracting/undermining my confidence I simply wish I had booked then in the first half then it becomes their problem if they...

    warm up

I have added a gentle jog to my routine prior to stretches after advice from my physio who is getting bored of patching me up. Haven't mastered the warm down post match yet so I guess I will keep paying towards my physio's next holiday.

    Advantage question

Wait a second and award the penalty if it is not virtually an open goal as every other scenario means a penalty is their best chance of scoring.

    Team In All Black

So we are all in agreement! I felt I was letting my principles get in the way of practicalities and should have put the bib on. What it led to me doing was allowing the opposition keeper to wear a black top and players on the sidelines were keeping their shirts on (roll on/off subs) as I felt I...

    Team In All Black

Had a pre season friendly. One team was in all black kit with a few small white stripes on the shoulders, they all looked like referees! They had travelled a small distance to be there and I asked them how come they could get away with their kit in their league to which I did not receive a...

    Junior/Youth A pleasant surprise

I try to make a point of letting the local ref's secretary know about decent sides as all they normally hear is the bad news. Unfortunately this has not resulted in many emails to him over the years. ;)

England U19s to replay end of qualifier after refereeing error

England will restart a key Under-19 women's match in the 96th minute with a retaken penalty after a refereeing error. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32231318 What a basic error, that would be embarrassing on a park pitch.

Open Age You can't help some people !

@happy whistler whilst I have considered reacting to a players shout for a foul when the advantage is the better option it would as DaveMac suggests make a very big rod for our own backs sadly.

Open Age You can't help some people !

I can understand why you did what you did. I try to always say loudly, "I have seen it" before deciding whether to play the advantage as this clearly acknowledges the foul and appeases onlookers that I have not missed something.

    Open Age Easter Sunday Fixture

A first for me. The ref sec contacted me to ask if I wanted a match on Sunday. The manager of the home side said they had a backlog as they had been successful in a number of cups. The venue is normally one of the busiest with 6 pitches in full swing except this Sunday when we will be the...

    Very sad

In my changing room yesterday it had the clubs code of conduct towards officials which included bad language. I went into the Home teams changing room after the match to collect my fee and there was nothing on the wall. A few of my teams when they confirm matches by email have a standard body...

    Removed From Cup Final Fixture

I was appointed to a midweek Cup Final as Referee but was removed just before the weekend. Our referee secretary had it brought to his attention that earlier in the season I submitted 3 misconducts against one of the sides which were upheld after the team appealed and he felt it might be...

    Junior/Youth Dealing with people after

Padfoot you need to read very s l o w l y what I said in my original posting. They are entitled to their opinions but not to swear at you or about you.

    Junior/Youth Dealing with people after

Bit extreme Padfoot, everyone is entitled to an opinion. You seem to be advocating defending yourself against all and every comment you hear and disagree with. Exhausting. Judging by your tone you must be a very angry ref during and after the match. Perhaps in your haste you did not read...

    Junior/Youth Dealing with people after

It's not right but ignore the comments even though they are rude. They are ignorant and need to take a long hard look in the mirror. They are entitled to their opinions but not to swear at you or about you. Whistle a loud tune to yourself as you leave the area and block out the comments...

    Clean and ready to go......

When I was a player I would clean my boots every weekend after matches. That habit has not left me, I will even give them a little clean after Saturday ready for Sunday or use my second pair of boots. When I check studs it is obvious players rarely take as much pride in their appearance as we...

    Funny comeback remarks

A player whilst forming a one man wall at a free kick asked me if he looked OK, I replied, very tall and handsome, he laughed.

How can a player get to adult football NOT knowing what dissent is?

I have told you a million times to stop exaggerating. :confused:Your maths is way off; 500 studs, 30 mins, 30 players! If you rely on players to tell you about dog mess:poop: it is likely to be during the match and yet another stoppage. Surely when you were being assessed checking players and...

Why do we check the keepers are ready before kick off?

Most referees check the GK out of habit as they are occasionally wrestling with their gloves still, but gloves are not a mandatory piece of equipment so why should we care if they are still preparing. It certainly is good practice to glance over the entire pitch, CAR's and players before...
