    L7-L6 LOTG Test

Just did one of the tests.

Junior/Youth Relying on massively confused CARs

Yes, I am not convinced that the directions re HB are strictly in accordance with the LOTG. Basically the instructions for youth games up to U16: boys are allowed to protect lower areas and girls higher, with an statement that this will not be called. I think that some of these 'local'...

    Fitness Help!

Incidentally, anyone had Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS)? I've had really mixed success with the foam rollers.

    Fitness Help!

Cycling can be really good for cardio but I reckon you need to throw in some longer rides. I can keep myself ticking over with 15 miles a day, but if I can get one 40 or 60 mile ride a week with hills then I notice a real difference. Then when running my legs get knackered way before I do.

Junior/Youth Relying on massively confused CARs

My daughter was refereeing the U12s again on Saturday. An offside goal that was allowed to stand showed how difficult it can be with inexperienced refs + CARs. Red attacking so defence up, ball breaks to a White midfielder who wellied it clear. Red defender protected themselves with their hands...

    Is it fair?

    TWO fingers? That's beyond USB.

    Is it fair?

I just don't understand the opposition to use of video for after match sanctions. You obviously don't want it in-match, like rugby league where it takes 3 minutes to know if someone's scored or not, but players dive because they know how hard it is to spot from one angle.

Free Kick, goal keeper not ready?

FFSA has mixed games up to U12 (I note OP Liam is FFA registered). A 25m FK into the top corner would be pretty good for a 12yo girl, tho I have seen a few with a decent boot on them.

    Hypothetical incident question

Sounds like a YATR question. You stop play only if the player is seriously injured, otherwise deal with at the next stoppage. And you never rely on players' versions of events. If you have an AR then ask, otherwise stern words etc.

Free Kick, goal keeper not ready?

As a goalkeeper myself, I do recommend scheduling bootlace adjustments for times other than DFKs just outside the box.

Free Kick, goal keeper not ready?

As soon as you blow your whistle the attacker is good to go, so from that point, yes. In a ceremonial free kick it is customary give the keeper reasonable time to organise himself and the wall. I am guessing that sorting out the placement, wall and checking on the AR would be enough time, but...

    Junior/Youth Sarcasim = booking?

Maybe it's a cultural thing. Akin to a Kiwi mate being genuinely surprised, when we were travelling in Scotland, to find himself arrested for breach of the peace, following some backchat to a policeman that back home was not only tolerated but expected.

    Junior/Youth Sarcasim = booking?

Wow I'm genuinely surprised at the overwhelming view that's it's a dead cert caution. Obviously depends on the circumstances but the go-to here surely is a comment back that shows who's the smart arse and who's in charge. You then clearly follow through if they continue to take the piss. But an...

2 incidents: Team off the field when a goal is scored.

Oh dear, poor kid. I agree Capn, all players in own half is a requirement for a kick off, so error in Law. Also that it is not a requirement for any other restart. Ref must have been cheesed off with 'World Cup winning goal' celebrations at an U11 game.

    Silly Question

We had the questions read out with comedy winks à la @HullRef 's emoji and then marked them ourselves.

    Junior/Youth Sarcasim = booking?

Hm, obv depends on how the game has gone to that point, but doesn't this call for a comment back on the lines of, "Well they took a look at the quality of your team and appointed me to the game. Now get on and play football if you don't want to see what I learned about cautions."

    First time abused

Y it's really encouraging to see you have come out the other side positive. Seems like you handled it as well as you possibly could and good job the association. My 16yo daughter has never encountered the idiots. She has so far refereed only U12 and U13, without incident as you'd hope from that...

    Junior/Youth Goal or not? KFTM

Lol at the 'former top referee' answer linked: yes it was a goal, because the referee decided it was a goal, otherwise it wouldn't have been.

    Offisde?

The LOTG do not support these arguments. p 35 'A player is not in an offside position if he is in his own half of the field of play'. No qualification or interpretation. It doesn't say 'entirely in his own half' or 'in his own half only' or 'no part of his body in the opposition's half'. If you...

    Neymar disallowed goal

Our local soccerball writer's view. Not only should the goal have been allowed, but an example of Soccer's Most Misapplied Law. http://indaily.com.au/sport/2015/06/10/soccers-most-wrongly-applied-law/
