Is any negative comments of a referee's performance acceptable on social media?

Constructive criticism is fine, but personally I would address it to the referee in question, not on social media.

    Ever been booed??

Rightly or wrongly, being a referee means we will get a fair bit of flak during the course of our careers. I have never let it bother me, and have never reacted to comments from spectators.

    Is this substitution completed?

The substitution was complete. The player was in position therefore the referee was correct to allow the game to re-start. It really is as straight forward as that. Had the player being moving into position then that would have been different.

Any point putting match on wholegame if no cards?

Slightly off topic. (Sorry moderators) But in Leicestershire we have just been told we must now use the WGS for reports instead of discipline@LeicestershireFA.com

All ready with nowhere to go.........

Given the mild winter, most leagues are not behind with their fixtures, so as April approaches, there are not that many games left. The thing is to always be prepared because you never know when you will get the call. Have kit, will travel...!

    Yellow / Red ?

Yellow sounds about right, though you were fortunate the attacking team were not calling for a red card.

    Prematch meal

I will usually have toast and scrambled eggs with a glass of fresh orange juice. And 6 pints of Guinness afterwards...!

    Tough game today

Wise words from Padfoot. Please always be aware of what constitutes a yellow/red card. As you gain more experience you will find that in certain situations a warning bell goes off in your head, and you will keep an eye on a situation. But you cannot have eyes in the back of your head and will...

    Yellow/Red then abandoned

Did you abandon the match because of the behaviour of the spectators? I note that you did not say that any spectators entered the field of play, so I was wondering about the reason for abandonment of the game. When players were squaring up to their opponents, did you caution any of them, or...

Back to back to back games, any tips?

As I have said on other threads, I do not think you should do more than one game a day. Come the third game, you will be mentally drained. And probably physically as well. As referees we are rightly expected to give 100% in every game. I do not think that is possible if a referee has more than...

    Spitting

Spitting at some-one is disgusting at any level, let alone at a football game. Were the two red cards as a result of the mass confrontation, and was the player who spat on involved?

taking a couple of weeks off!!

Unfortunately from time to time these incidents do happen. Send a full report to your County FA, and the league in question. You will get their full support.

    How many of you...

I have had a few over the years, not many though. Goalless games often require a higher level of concentration, particularly in the ten minutes or so.

Match called off in firt minute due to fog!!!

The referee has the decision on whether a match should be played. I cannot understand any input the assessor had.

Cardiff v Bournemouth - Disallowed Goal

My thoughts exactly. Sometimes a referee will mentally switch off in these situations, and then saw the ball hit the Bournemouth player, so he then presumed he had impeded the goalkeeper.

Would you answer a few questions?

I will email him, but what will he do with the replies?

How To Avoid Being The Fly On The Wall?

In our Sunday league, clubs are required to pay the match fee before the game. Many don't. So at the end of the game I go and get changed and go home. And then report the club. One thing I will never do is hang around a changing room waiting for money.

    Diversity

The only thing that should matter is the referees ability and performance. I assess referees frequently and the colour of their skin or their sexuality does not concern me.

Would you cry off a morning match cause you've got a "big one" in the afternoon

I must say it has concerned me for some time the amount of games some referees try to cram into a weekend. I do know of one referee in my county that openly admits he only does it for the money. He was, is and always will be a level 7 referee. He has no interest in promotion, but is available to...

Has anyone ever actually been 'Reported?'

The only case I know of where the referee was found guilty when reported was when he was reported for threatening a player at the end of the game. The referee in question admitted he did lose it and was subsequently banned.
