Well that is a part of our job.

Your "go to" phrases that you always use

"Oh come off it" or "Just shut up and get on with it" or "Do you always moan this much?"

It's a damned good forum, no? Except for this spam filter that makes me wait before I post....

"He was going away from goal ref"

Live and learn, but as I recently said elsewhere, I think that we can sometimes have a tendency to see any complaint as dissent and that's just not useful.

Thanks guys; Supermonkey, you're likely right about what it is.

    Black Kit and dissent

If you don't mind me saying so, it seems like you had a bad attitude going into it. If the kits were unacceptably close to one another, you have a choice: you either get on with it as if it was a normal game and suck it up, or you tell the home team they either change or you abandon the match...

Can you give a decision you hear?

Sure you can! You don't have to explain how you came to the conclusion you came to so might as well just go with what your gut says.

    Struggle to sleep after games

I have struggled to sleep before big appointments and after ****e performances. You should use your new-found awake time to work on fitness. Nothing quite like a morning run ;)

    "we pay your wages"

Also let's remember that there is a difference between a player being annoying with questioning your decisions and a player engaging in dissent worthy of a caution.

    "we pay your wages"

That's an extremely harsh (in fact, I would say incorrect) red card to give. The caution for the berating was fine; the comment about the payment seems like a one-off and can be dealt with by reminding him that the second yellow will likely come much quicker than the first did at this point.

"He was going away from goal ref"

Why would you book for that? Why not just say "It's still a foul inside the penalty area and so it's still a penalty kick. However, had he been going towards goal, you may have been sent off for DOGSO -- maybe that's what you're thinking of."

Welcome to Refchat. You were absolutely right with your decision both to join the site and to allow the goal.

    Pre-Match Procedure

Yeah fair enough but the most wiggle room is given when you don't have the chat at all.

Open Age Was I a bit harsh?

You cautioned him the first time he did it and, presumably, you warned him about his language. What else did he expect?

    Pre-Match Procedure

I don't like this whole "pre-match talk with the players" thing. They should already know what is expected and the chances of them listening to me are pretty slim.

Players standing in front of ALL free kicks

Give them two chances (the first one tell him quietly to get out of there, the second one shout it loudly to get away now) and then caution the next one who does it. Remember: the attacking team is owed the ten yards before a free kick, they don't have to ask for it.

Positioning - Help & Thoughts Please

There's often too much importance placed on the getting play between the AR and yourself. That's the ideal position, I grant you, but it is not always best to make the move to that position. What I'm picturing in my mind is that you've come across to the correct position for the goal kick, the...

    Lower Back

Well it was kind of worse than even that because he pretended to do a warm up and it kind of became obvious after ten minutes that he really didn't know what he was doing and was a bit of a fish out of water -- no fault of his own, he doesn't often get to work with a team of officials and do...

    How to stay consistent

IMO the ten minute chunk thing is the antithesis to consistent refereeing. I will concede that sometimes you have to be a bit more "on top of things" in the first ten to fifteen minutes of the match but aside from that, you should be consistent the whole match. Nothing is more infuriating than...
