Now it's going to be an expensive weekend......

You see you played that badly, I wouldn't have declared the postponement to the governess, slipping out the door with my bag and a cheery wave. Then find a game that is on.....on returning home whack the clean kit in the washer and no one knows.

    IFAB Meeting

more changes that will confuse the hell out of clubs, players and managers, without mentioning us. Add to that an enhanced role for captains! Sim bins won't work at grassroots, unless the FA are going to send independent timekeepers to games. I like the idea of sending players off temporarily...

    Gareth Bale...

I think the events ran away from the ref, he seemed to be chasing events. By the time he caught up matters has escalated to the point where it all got physical. Like many have said an early whistle might have prevented the need for what followed This clip shows the incident from slightly before...

How has your promotion season gone?

The biggest issue I had was that we were told to expect contact within 10 days for resits. If you didn't hear anything : congratulations you have passed. My county contacted me 2 months later! Anyway, sailed the resit so all good.

    IFAB Meeting

Both appear to be well meaning but neither will work in the real world Captains will take it as permission to harass us at every opportunity. Sin bins for reasons already stated. Anymore than 1 in the bin will make managing it almost impossible.

How has your promotion season gone?

Had the same issues with the exam, again passed on resit. My RDO seemed relaxed about it though, I think the very high failure rate at seminar sittings might actually help. It would be easier to discard one or two, but 50%+ would be a bit more difficult especially given the L4 shortage. I...

Open Age One of those 'why do I bother' games...

Don't let what I actually posted effect your comments. I talk about fair challenges, massive difference. If a player backs in to impede or prevent an opponent playing the ball/challenging for the ball fairly then I will stop play. If a player straight arms someone unfairly then I will also stop...

Where is the counter position in the laws? this isn't rugby.

Open Age One of those 'why do I bother' games...

Padfoot, Law12 page 82- impeding a player with contact. If in my opinion a player uses his arms to stop an opponent from making a fair challenge I will blow. Quite different to a push and not all contact is impeding. I recognise the difference between using arms fairly (balance, protection...

    Shot myself in the foot

If the ball is played very quickly the argument about it being even a backpass exists. I have never come across a defending stepping over the ball and may react differently should it happen. Much depends on the circumstances and temperature of the game

Open Age One of those 'why do I bother' games...

Yep, if in my opinion he does so to impede or prevent a fair challenge. No player has a right to space, let alone set up protection zone that no one can enter.

Open Age One of those 'why do I bother' games...

A player with his hands straight out in front of him on another players shoulders/back is only looking at impeding his opponent. He gets a whistle from me. As a centre half myself it was a good way of getting the attacker out of your face when the referee was weak on it. The other trick was to...

    Shot myself in the foot

Stepping over the ball could be viewed as a deliberate trick, thus an indirect free kick anyway. - is that where you are coming from padfoot?

    Mike Dean watch....

From refs angle it would look nailed on, after a couple of watches - attacker made a meal of very little , if any, contact. Players are conning each other. I am sure there will be a balancing decision soon enough

for these types of challenges I look at 2 things - eyes and arms. Are the players watching the ball or taking a sneak peak. Is the arm bent or straight, straight arm results in whistle every time. Not a fan of players jumping with elbows either, almost always results in unwanted contact.

    Tackle from behind

Can only echo Mr Groves wise words. Tackling from behind in its very nature is more in hope of getting the ball first. Taking the ball cleanly without contacting the player is almost impossible. These type of 'man and ball' tackles were common place years ago along with the injuries they bought...

Open Age Had enough mid game and walked off

Errrr the contract is implied thus there is a contract that is implied. There are loads in life, you don't sign a contract when you park your car at a pay and display car park however you and the car park provider enter into an implied contract- you agree to the terms of parking by paying the fee.

    Playing advantage from offside

Law 11 is fairly clear that it is not an offence to be in an offside position. Letting play continue is different to playing advantage. Play to the whistle chaps.
